Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in your blood. Your body needs cholesterol to build healthy cells, but high levels of cholesterol can increase your risk of heart disease. With high cholesterol, you can develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels 🫀🩺

You can lower your cholesterol through heart-healthy lifestyle changes. They include a heart-healthy eating plan, weight management, and regular physical activity ⛹🏻‍♀️ 🥬

A heart-healthy diet includes plenty of soluble fiber, lots of fruits and vegetables, and is high in omega-3 fatty acids 🥗 🍣. Also, choose HEALTHIER FATS found in lean meats, nuts, and unsaturated oils. Here are a few rules of thumb to guide you through the process:

1,500 calories/day : consume 42-58 grams of total fats a day 10g of which could be saturated 🥜
2,000 calories/day: consume 56-78 grams of total fats a day 13g of which could be saturated 🫒
2,500 calories/day: consume 69-97 grams of total fats a day 17g of which could be saturated ✨

There are several ways you can reduce your risk of developing heart disease, such as lowering your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

1️⃣ Follow a low-fat, high-fibre diet; include veggies, fruits, and whole grains 🍇🌾

2️⃣ Avoid food containing saturated fats, because these will increase the levels of bad cholesterol in your blood. However, a balanced diet should still include unsaturated fats, which have been shown to increase levels of good cholesterol and help reduce any blockage in your arteries 🥗 🍳
