"Navigating baby food stages can feel like a mystery! π
Many parents ask me: How do I know when to move from purees to mashes, or from mashes to finger foods?
It's less about the calendar and more about these key developmental signs.
"Let's play a game! Below are 4 milestones. Tell me in the comments which one YOUR baby is working on right now! π
A. The Sitting & Gulp Test: Is your baby sitting with minimal support and showing interest in your food? Can they move puree to the back of their throat to swallow (and not just push it out with their tongue)? This is your green light for starting solids!
B. The Mash Mastery Milestone: Does your baby lean forward for the spoon, open their mouth eagerly, and easily handle smooth, runny purees? It might be time to introduce thicker, mashed textures (like avocado mash or lumpy oatmeal) to strengthen those chewing muscles.
C. The Pincer Power Move: Is your baby starting to grab the spoon or pick up small objects with thumb and forefinger? This is the signal to introduce soft, bite-sized finger foods (steamed pea-sized carrot cubes, soft banana pieces)! Itβs messy but crucial.
D. The Chewing Champion (Even Without Teeth!): Is your baby making munching motions, handling soft lumps well, and eager to self-feed? Welcome to the world of minced and chopped family foods! Gums are powerful grinders."
"This is just a quick guide! Every baby is unique, and knowing what foods to offer at each stage, how to spot allergies, and ensure balanced nutrition is where it gets detailed.
I wrote my book, '[200 Delicious Meals for Babies Under One]', to be your complete companion through this delicious journey.
It has:
-day-by-day meal planners for each stage.
-Over 100 easy, pediatrician-approved recipes.
-Troubleshooting guides for gagging, refusal, and allergies.
-How to build a diverse palate to prevent picky eating
