Cumin!
The use of cumin in India food has a history close to 5,000 years. It is among the most commonly used ingredients and blesses its presence in most “masala dhabas” across Indian households. It is a great source of Iron and Manganese - helping bone and blood health. Turmeric is arguably India’s most ancient and revered spice. The earliest use of turmeric dates back to 2000 BC during the Vedic age.

In Ayurveda, turmeric is actively used to balance the 3 dosha’s (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). It is viewed as a purifier and helps aid in digestion.

According to the Ayurvedic principle, the human body is made up of the 5 elements (water, earth,
air, fire and ether). These are further segmented into different body types - Vata, Pitta, Kapha (doshas). This is similar to the Western categorisation of body types (ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph). However, the doshas cover a wider scope of understanding than just body types. In the coming series, we will explore the constituents of each dosha and it’s implications on our well-being.
