Morning Sickness & Nausea
🤰 Many moms experience nausea and vomiting, especially in the first trimester. Though uncomfortable, it usually improves after week 12–14.
💡 Small, frequent meals and ginger tea may help. Always consult your doctor if symptoms are severe.

recap 🎥: Preeclampsia can often be anticipated and managed. At 11–13+6 weeks, ask about a risk assessment (history, BP, ± uterine artery Doppler/biomarkers). If high-risk, your doctor may advise low-dose aspirin from 12–16 weeks. Know urgent signs—severe headache, vision changes, pain under the right ribs, sudden swelling, reduced baby movements—and seek care promptly. With close monitoring and a clear birth plan, most moms and babies do very well. Book your first-trimester check with FMGC.

Monitoring Baby & Deciding Timing of Birth”
If preeclampsia is suspected/diagnosed, we increase surveillance—for you and baby.

Monitoring may include blood tests, urine/protein checks, and fetal growth + Dopplers, with NST/BPP as needed. Many moms continue pregnancy safely with close follow-up, while some need earlier delivery—your team balances maternal safety with baby’s wellbeing.

“Calcium & Lifestyle Support”
In low-calcium diets, calcium supplements may help reduce risk—plus BP checks, balanced diet, movement, and sleep all support a healthy pregnancy.

For populations with low dietary calcium, 1.5–2 g/day elemental calcium (divided doses with meals) is recommended to reduce preeclampsia risk. Pair this with routine BP monitoring, staying active as advised, and attending all antenatal visits. Your clinician will personalise supplements to your diet and labs.

“Prevention: Low-Dose Aspirin (per your doctor’s advice)”
Many high-risk moms are advised a daily low-dose aspirin started early in pregnancy.

Guidelines recommend low-dose aspirin for people at high risk, started between 12–16 weeks (up to 28 weeks per ACOG; earlier is better) and continued until near delivery. Dose varies by guideline (~81–150 mg/day)—your doctor will tailor this to you. Evidence shows it lowers the risk of preterm preeclampsia when started early.

"Ask at your 12–14-week visit if aspirin is right for you."

“Who’s at Higher Risk & Early Screening”

Risk factors + first-trimester screening help us plan ahead.

Higher risk: prior preeclampsia, multifetal pregnancy, chronic hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, autoimmune disease; also first pregnancy, family history, high BMI, age ≥35. Between 11–13+6 weeks, combined risk assessment may include medical history, blood pressure, uterine artery Doppler, and (where available) biomarkers (e.g., PlGF) to identify those who benefit most from prevention.

"Book your first-trimester assessment early."

“What is Preeclampsia?”

Preeclampsia is high blood pressure after 20 weeks that can affect mom’s organs and the placenta. It’s serious—but with early checks and a plan, most pregnancies do very well.

Preeclampsia = new high BP after 20 weeks + signs of organ involvement. It can progress quickly, so early risk assessment and regular blood-pressure checks matter. If you ever notice severe headache, vision changes, right-upper-abdomen pain, sudden swelling, or reduced baby movements—contact your doctor.

Calcium & Magnesium

🍼 Strong bones, healthy muscles!
Calcium and magnesium tests check minerals crucial for your baby’s skeletal development and your own muscle and nerve function. Low levels may lead to cramps, weakness, or pregnancy complications.

Vitamin D

☀️ Why is Vitamin D testing so important?
Vitamin D supports your baby’s bone and teeth development and helps regulate calcium absorption. Deficiency can lead to bone weakness in both mother and baby.

🌸 Sunlight, diet, and supplements may help—but blood testing ensures you know your exact levels.
