Probiotics are live bacteria and high heat processing can destroy a large portion (if not all) of those “beneficial” strains before they even reach your dog’s bowl.

So while the label may look amazing…ask yourself: what’s the actual benefit?

And remember that probiotics aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution.

In dogs dealing with:
👎 chronic digestive upset
👎 allergies
👎 leaky gut
👎 gut imbalances

Adding random probiotic strains without addressing the root cause can sometimes do more harm than good.

Yes this is another commonly overlooked issue in pet food. And yes fortunately for some and unfortunately, for many many others, I am highlighting it 🤦🏾‍♀️

And now I’m finding that I have to SAY this one blanket statement, all the time 🔽🔽

“ Not to create fear, but to bring awareness.” because of the sensitivities of highlighting the truth. 🤔🤔🤔

Anyways …. you can’t supplement your way out of a poor foundation.

And while I highlight these gaps… I’ll always guide you on what to do instead.

Dogs deserve better !!!!

Bone broth was never meant to be complicated.

Traditionally, it’s one of the simplest additions you can give your dog. Nothing complicated.

But somewhere along the way… it changed.

Now we’re seeing bone broth formulated with fruits, berries, and “superfoods” ingredients that sound healthy to us, but don’t necessarily serve the purpose of what bone broth is meant to do.

As a certified canine nutritionist and student in Human health nutrition- I am going to break this down and help you understand how processing certain ingredients can alter metabolic content of food…

Research shows that heating and processing fruit can alter how sugars behave changing their availability and how they’re absorbed.

So this isn’t about fear.
It’s about understanding.

It’s about unlearning and relearning for the betterment of our dogs!!

Remember , adding fruit to bone broth doesn’t just “enhance” it.. it also changes its nutritional intent.

And that’s the part most people miss.

‼️ If you’re relying on a bone broth loaded with multiple ingredients just to get your dog to eat,
you’re not solving the problem you’re masking it.

And that’s how picky eating becomes permanent.‼️

If you choose to feed fruit, do it intentionally.
Whole. Moderately. Separately. Make it organic if you can!

This may challenge what you’ve been told and that’s the point.

Advocating for your dog’s health isn’t a threat.
It’s responsibility.
It’s our duty.

Our dogs deserve better!!!

Tisha ✨

Pleasssseeee people …..what are we actually promoting here?

Somewhere along the line, something shifted and we started normalising diets that look nothing like what a dog is meant to THRIVE on!!!

Just because a dog can survive on something doesn’t mean a dog is thriving… I know …I know this will be hard for some of you to understand

Reality is that we’ve gone from real ..to fancy labels, fillers, and clever marketing. 😉

I see you … those marketing tricks won’t work here!

So maybe it’s time we stop accepting what’s marketed… and start asking what actually makes sense!

Dogs deserve better!!

Mushrooms are more than just another trendy topic in the pet space.

When used correctly keeping in mind proper extraction, and meaningful dosing and sourcing, they can play a supportive role in health - for both humans and pets .

‼️In a very unregulated pet industry we are seeing more often are “immunity blends” that look impressive on the label, yet don’t always reflect meaningful formulation inside.‼️

But it also raises an important question…

Is it really affordable to spend around 200+ AED on something that appears supportive, but may be delivering sub-therapeutic levels of key ingredients? 💸

I would also be very mindful of these types of blends that may include ingredients like fish oils 🐟 which can be prone to oxidation if not properly stabilised or backed by testing. Without third-party analysis, it becomes difficult to truly understand freshness, potency, and quality over time.

🗣️What I’m consistently seeing is a gap between what is being marketed… and what is actually being delivered.

This is why I continue to push for more transparency and accountability in the pet industry 🔍

I speak about mushrooms extensively 🍄 especially when it comes to extraction methods, beta-glucan content, and overall formulation quality.

And here’s something I stand by:

If it’s not something you would consider using yourself, then it’s worth questioning whether it truly belongs in your pet’s protocol.✨✨✨✨

The mushrooms I share with dogs are selected at therapeutic levels because I believe quality shouldn’t be diluted nor compromised

Because our pets deserve more than marketing- they are not sales!! Choose “pups over profit” … remember that tagline I referred to previously!!

If you’re looking for alternative options, feel free to DM me and I’m happy to share recommendations.

There’s a reason I keep coming back to Susan Thixton’s work every single year.

Because in an industry filled with marketing, strong opinions, and noise… real transparency is still hard to find.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know this …. I don’t believe in turning a blind eye when it comes to pet food. Not ingredients. Not sourcing. Not the claims being made.

And here in the UAE, this conversation is very much needed.

We have access to many imported brands, beautifully marketed products, and emerging fresh food options… but very little clear, structured education to help pet parents actually understand what they’re feeding.

That’s where this starts to change.

I’ve been inspired by Susan Thixton’s work for years, and I’ll be working on bringing a version of this kind of transparency-focused resource to the UAE.

This isn’t something that will be rushed.
It’s something I’ll be building thoughtfully over time.

If you’ve ever stood in a pet store feeling confused…
If you’ve ever questioned labels…
If you’ve ever wondered what’s actually “good”…

You’re not alone.

Something is coming … and I truly believe this region is ready for it.

So, let’s go!

It’s interesting to see how quickly things are changing.

We now live in a time where you can ask a question…
and get an answer in seconds.

And while tools like ChatGPT can be incredibly helpful - I mean, they’re used to create websites from scratch! AI is also making it very easy to sound knowledgeable.

But sounding knowledgeable and actually understanding something are not the same thing. For example, I recently discovered that people don’t understand what bioavailability mean. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Also, how blessed are we in the UAE that there are so many TCVM professionals popping up. Soon we wouldn’t need veterinarians either because AI is resolving everything at home. Lucky us. I don’t know how to use hashtags but I think makes sense here 🫠

On a serious note, I know Western herbalist that are studying for years now and still need to revisit our textbooks before answering questions that students pose. Maybe they should relocate to the UAE because we have everything here.

Ok enough with the sarcasm.

This is real… I also had moments in my journey where I was asked to underplay my knowledge. At the time, I didn’t understand why. I always like to believe the best in people
I was told to: tone it down, make myself small. Which I did.

And that really made me reflect on how often people are encouraged to shrink what they’ve worked so hard to build.

Because behind what I share is: late nights, 2am study sessions, coffee overload and constant learning which means evolution.

And I’m still learning.

Use tools like ChatGPT.
Use Google.
Learn as much as you can.
Do it.

But don’t confuse access to information with depth of knowledge.

Because when it comes to your dog’s health…this isn’t about shortcuts and pet parents … dogs are not profits. There’s a company in the US whose tag line is “Pups over profits” … that’s so nice, right?

Remember,

It’s about learning.
Unlearning.
And relearning.

Over and over again.

Happy learning!

I’m honestly shocked by some of the hateful messages and comments that have come my way recently.

I never realised how contentious this topic is for people.

There’s a difference between feedback and what I’m seeing in some of these responses.

One person literally said they’re “waiting for me to flip my review”… and I genuinely had to pause…are you saying you’re waiting for my dogs to react to food and for them to be hospitalized so you can validate a point?

I’ve shared past personal observations, clearly framed as my experience.

Another comment from someone who brought up messages from three years ago, taken completely out of context and used in a way that feels more like manipulation than discussion. This is the only way they can frame hateful discussions about me and it’s never ending!

Someone else who, from what I understand, comes from a more commercial background, said she took a deep dive into my profile and can “see a pattern,” suggesting that we shouldn’t be talking about certain ingredients or products that may have potential health concerns, and that we should essentially turn a blind eye.🤦🏾‍♀️

And that’s where I struggle to understand the reaction.

Because I’m not attacking anyone. I’m not making claims without context. I’m speaking about ingredients, formulations, and the importance of informed choices.

What’s interesting is how selective the outrage can be in this space. Some voices are questioned aggressively, while others sharing equally strong claims face none of the same scrutiny. 🧐

And I’m also learning that being open, calm, and kind doesn’t always protect you from being misinterpreted or targeted.

Why is that?

And trust me if I start talking about my qualifications, you may think that I’m bragging, but maybe I need to brag, I’ve not done a three month cheap course and call myself a nutrition expert.

And yes, I’m highlighting the double standards in this industry whether that’s comfortable or not.

We should be able to have conversations about nutrition, ingredients, and approaches without it turning into personal attacks.

That’s all I’m doing.

If the pet industry told the full truth… most products wouldn’t sell.‼️

We can stick our heads in the sand.
Pretend everything on the shelf is built for health.
Pretend the industry is fully transparent.🫠🫠

But it’s not.

And the moment you start questioning it, it’s never always accepted. Because questioning the narrative impacts sales.

I’m seeing it more and more.
Speak up, and suddenly you’re “too much,” “too extreme,” or “fear mongering.” And this is happening in circles in Dubai! Shameful !!!!

Given, this is happening across the pet industry globally.

Let’s be clear:

A lot of what’s sold as “healthy” is still built on high-starch formulations and heavily processed inputs.

But digestible doesn’t mean optimal. ❌❌

‼️‼️‼️And I’ll be blunt here especially in a place like Dubai, where English isn’t everyone’s first language:

Digestibility does not mean bioavailability.‼️‼️‼️

Those are not the same thing. Go read that again pls, thanks!

And yet… this has been normalised.

This isn’t about attacking brands.
It’s about telling the truth. Truth means Truth.

& if this feels like an attack, it says more about the parties feeling attacked than it does about the truth.
🗣️ Pet parents pay attention!!!

I will always use my voice to stand up and speak for the voiceless because we really need to do better for our dogs.

I’m addressing something that was sent to me and as someone who is genuinely passionate about joint health (especially with dogs predisposed to musculoskeletal issues), this matters deeply to me.

We are seeing more and more content where pet parents share “reviews” claiming that a treat improved or even resolved conditions like joint pain or muscle injury.🤦🏾‍♀️

And I want to be very clear:

‼️ this is irresponsible
‼️ and it blurs the line between marketing, opinion, and clinical reality

Reviews are not recommendations.❌
And they are not evidence.❌

What worries me most is how easily these narratives spread especially when someone is already dealing with a dog in pain and looking for solutions. That vulnerability is exactly where misleading messaging becomes dangerous ⚠️

if you’ve been here long enough, then you know, I have advocated for joint support supplements such as:
• Jump for Joints
• Joint support formulas from Animal Essentials

These are supplements designed to support physiological processes not treats claiming to treat or cure injury or disease.🦠

I also need to be honest about my own journey.
I’ve listened to these female dog parents, One example, I will deeply regret is using a prong collar on Gucho. At the time, I believed my dogs were the worst behaved in Dubai and I was the worst parent.

Looking back, i can see how easily advice and peer influence can shape decisions that aren’t always grounded in proper understanding.

I’m sharing this not to dwell on the past, but because many of us have been influenced in similar ways especially in spaces where opinion spreads faster than education.

This is why I’ve stepped back from toxic environments and echo-chamber narratives often replace clinical thinking, and why I now choose to rely more on physiology, education, and structured understanding 📚

Yes, I understand that businesses are trying to sell especially in now in Dubai 🇦🇪 But growth should not come at the cost of ethics or standards.

I came across a message recently in a WhatsApp group… someone trying to sell their dog.

And it stopped me.

Because dogs are not commodities.
But the reality is that to some people, they are treated that way.😢

Living in a place like Dubai, relocation is part of life. People move, plans change, and timelines can shift quickly.

But our pets don’t understand any of that.

This post isn’t about blaming anyone.

Because the truth is sometimes situations are complicated, and not everything goes to plan.

But it is about awareness.

About thinking ahead.
About recognising that bringing a pet into your life also means planning for the what ifs even the uncomfortable ones.

Because when there is no plan, the pet is the one who carries the outcome.

And whether that looks like rushed rehoming, being passed around, left with others, or in some cases abandoned…

it all starts with one decision.

Our pets are not temporary parts of our lives.

They’re a lifelong commitment even when life changes..

Sorry I’m a little out of breath in this one..walking with the dogs and trying to maximize my time as best as possible 🐾

I just wanted to share something important, especially if you’re currently considering herbs for your pets.

We’re in a time where social media is full of “quick advice” and people speaking like experts… and honestly, it can get confusing fast.

‼️Not everything being shared is coming from deep study or clinical understanding.‼️

If you’re ever unsure, always lean into guidance from qualified veterinarians or practitioners who truly understand how herbs interact with the body.

I stand with UAE veterinarians and integrative professionals who are doing this work thoughtfully because in practice, we often see pet parents struggling to connect the dots later on.

They think: “But I was giving something natural… it should be safe.”

And that’s where context matters.

For example, ashwagandha is often used as an adaptogen, and yes it can be supportive when used carefully and appropriately. I personally use herbs like this in a very intentional way, sometimes alongside mushroom tinctures, but never randomly and never blindly.

And I certainly don’t recommend anything like this without considering the individual dog, their history, and potential contraindications.

This is where study matters.

“Natural” doesn’t automatically mean “safe for every dog.” ✅

And confidence online doesn’t always equal clinical understanding. ✅

Just something to sit with today ☀️
