I’m excited to share that I’ve joined Free Spirit Collective as a Consultant Psychiatrist!

Leaving American Wellness center is bittersweet. I’ve learned so much, and I’m proud of the work I’ve done there. But I’m also feeling ready and looking forward to starting this new chapter.

I’m truly grateful to be part of a practice that values holistic, patient-centered care and mental wellness, and I look forward to contributing to a growing conversation around mental health in our region.

Thank you to all those who’ve supported my journey so far.

Mindset matters!
Say no to negativity!

Our negative thoughts and beliefs affect our actions and behavior. If you wake up thinking “today feels like a terrible day”, it’s very unlikely that today will somehow become a wonderful day. You have already decided that you won’t be happy today and every little thing that goes wrong will convince you that you were right in your belief. However if you change your negative mindset and think that today will be a good day, chances are that those same little things that go wrong will seem trivial to you and not affect you as much. Conversely, little things that go right will reinforce your belief about this day being a good one.

Replace your negative thoughts with neutral or positive ones and see what difference it makes!

Feeling anxiety while fasting:

-Having a feeling of being stuck with your fast.
-Feeling suffocated or restricted about not being able to drink water.
-Feeling like thirst will become intolerable.
-Experiencing dry mouth.
-Experiencing a lumpy feeling in the throat and finding it difficult to swallow.
-Being unable to sleep.

Tips to overcome this anxiety:
-First make sure there is no medical cause of excessive thirst or mouth dryness ( dehydration, diabetes, certain medications, hormonal imbalance)
-Keep yourself hydrated. During non fasting hours, drink enough water and other foods which help quench thirst.
-Make sure you’re breathing through the nose only. Mouth breathing can further worsen mouth dryness.
-Tell yourself this is anxiety. First accept your anxiety and sit with it. (Pushing away thoughts that produce anxiety or avoiding them only makes them worse)
-After you have accepted this is anxiety, challenge the anxiety causing thoughts. E.g I will die of extreme thirst. Ask yourself if this is possible. Ask yourself if a life threatening situation arises, is it not allowed to drink water.
-Tell yourself anxiety is making the situation seem worse than it is.
-While sleeping, practice deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation (gradually relaxing all parts of your body), positive imagery.
-Practice meditation/clearing your mind.
-Pray for the relief from anxiety.
-Seek help from a professional if above tips do not help.

Anxiety is real, it is a medical condition and it can be quite disabling. Please address your anxiety and do not suffer in silence.

You are not as transparent as you think. People cannot tell if you are nervous and doubtful about yourself.
Remember this the next time you think that a person can see right through you. Studies have shown that merely being aware of this can make you more confident.

You may think that when you are feeling happy, excited, nervous or sad, the person in front of you can see right through you and know how you feel.
This is just an illusion. We are not as transparent as we think. Knowing this can help you perform better and avoid unrealistic expectations from others.

Humans tend to overestimate their importance. They think that the spotlight is on them at all times. So, they overthink that sudden fall which nobody notices, that small stammer that nobody registers and that genuine mistake that nobody remembers.
Everyone’s world revolves around themselves and they do not notice the things that you beat yourself up for.
Be kind to yourself.
