‎آتورواستاتین دارویی از دسته ی استاتین ها می باشد که کلسترول خون را با مهار کردن آنزیم های سازنده ی کلسترول کاهش می دهد. کاهش کلسترول ، ریسک بیماری های قلبی و عروقی را کاهش می دهد.
‎آتورواستاتین همچنین در افرادی که مستعد بیماری های قلب و عروق هستند(حتی با وجود کلسترول نرمال خون ) ریسک این بیماری ها را کاهش می دهد.
