Saving Aida

Saving Aida On June 2nd 2010, Aida was diagnosed with a cyanotic Congenital Heart disease (Severe Ebstein’s Anomaly, Pulmonary Atresia) She was given four days to live.

On Saturday April 2010 Gillian Dupigny experienced the incredible joy of bringing two wonderful

children into this world, Aida and Akira. But well before she could have settled from the euphoria of being with her first borns, doctors broke the

bad news that any parent would dread hearing. Gillian and her husband, Lester, were told that Aida has been diagnosed with a severe case of Ebstein’s

Anamoly, a rare heart condition. The shocking and painful discovery came three days after birth. According to Gillian, in her own account of that painful journey, “It was not until 13th April, 2010 during

a routine examination of Aida, a heart murmur was discovered. She was kept at the hospital under

observation and was discharged the following day. We thought that all was well. We were wrong, approximately 3 weeks later Aida was readmitted to the

hospital. Things started to take a different turn. Aida was slowly losing her strength. On June 2nd 2010

she went into cardiac distress and was airlifted to a children’s hospital in Martinique. She was examined

by a team of specialists, and was diagnosed with a cyanotic Congenital Heart disease (Severe Ebstein’s

Anomaly, Pulmonary Atresia). The doctor told us there’s no hope, that our little daughter would be

dead within 4 days. His words were “I know what I’m saying, I wish there was something else I could say

to you, she is not going to make it so you should move on with your lives together with your other

daughter (Akira Hope Dupigny).”

Today a small committee made up of Gillian’s co-workers in the Nelson’s Dockyard has been formed to

move this cause forward. On Friday May 1, after a long and arduous search to find the institution that would best help Aida,

Gillian received a medical opinion and treatment options from the Boston Children’s Hospital. The BCH

advises that she would need US$187,687.00 for a combination of services to correct her abnormality. This does not include airfare to Boston, accommodation and subsistence while in Boston and airfare to

Barbados for VISA purposes. This accounts for an additional US$10,394.80. A fund has been started at the Dockyard branch of Antiguan bank, ECAB, in the name of Aida’s mother,

Gillian Dupigny. The account number is 121000719

We are seeking your support in helping us to reach this target so that Aida can remain with us and grow

up to be the wonderful promise that she is and to be the delightful inspiration that her mother is to all

those with whom she has come in contact.

From the depths of our hearts, thank you to every single person who came out and supported the Saving Aida BBQ. Your presence, generosity, prayers, and encouragement meant more to us than words could ever fully express.
This journey has been long, exhausting, and at times overwhelming, but days like this remind us that we are not walking it alone. Every plate purchased, every kind word spoken, every helping hand given carried hope for Aida and strength for our family.
There were moments when we felt tired and discouraged, unsure how we would keep going, but your love lifted us. You showed us compassion in action, and that love fuels our fight. We are deeply grateful to each of you who stood with us, believed in Aida, and chose to support her journey.
We still have a long road ahead, but because of you, we move forward with renewed faith, strength, and hope. Thank you for standing with us and for being part of Aida’s story. ❤️

To everyone who has been standing with us, thank you. Your prayers, shares, purchases, messages, and donations have carried us through some of the hardest days of our lives.
Every dollar you’ve given is going directly toward Aida’s medical care at Boston Children’s Hospital. Right now, we are focusing on clearing US$75,000 for her 2024 care, even as we still face the bill for her upcoming open-heart surgery. The mountain is high, but we’re climbing it one step, one blessing, one act of kindness at a time.
This journey has been painful, exhausting, and frightening… but we are not giving up on Aida. She has fought since birth, and we will fight right alongside her.
If you feel led to support, whether through sharing, donating, or simply praying, please know that it means more to us than words can say.
Thank you for loving our girl. Thank you for helping us carry this load.

The Saving Aida Barbecue is happening because we are trying to raise the funds for her outstanding bill and open-heart surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. The costs are overwhelming, but with your help, we can get her the care she desperately needs.
If you can’t attend the barbecue, you can still support by purchasing a ticket or donating through her GoFundMe link below. Every plate, every share, every donation brings Aida one step closer to healing.

I painted this, and I want to tell you what it means.”
These two masks show what I feel most days but can never really explain.
The yellow mask is the part of me that smiles for everyone. The part that tries to be strong, that laughs, that jokes, that says, “I’m okay,” even when my heart hurts or I’m tired from fighting. It’s the version of me people see on the outside.
The blue mask is the truth I hold inside, the pain, the fear, the moments when I cry quietly so no one worries. It’s the days when my chest feels heavy, or when I wonder how much longer I have to be strong.
I connected both masks with exposed nerves and pieces of my brain because my feelings are tangled together. Even when I’m smiling, the sadness is still connected. Even when I’m crying, I’m still trying to be brave.
Nothing is separate… it’s all happening at the same time.
This painting is me explaining how it feels to live with a heart condition, to look happy on the outside, but on the inside carry pain, worry, and hope all together.
I painted it because sometimes I don’t know how to talk about what really goes on in my mind. So I put it on paper instead.
If this painting touches you, please share it.
Every share helps tell my story, and helps me get closer to the surgery I need.
Thank you for listening to me…
and for seeing the parts of me most people don’t.”
