Medicaid in American Samoa
The American Samoa Medicaid State Agency provides financial support to the territory’s health care system. It provides funding to the LBJ Hospita, the Department of Health’s Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) community health clinics, Off-island Referral Program to New Zealand, Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies, and Medicare Dual-Eligible co-pay assistance. AS Medicaid’s ability to provide coverage to our Medicaid providers depends on our local government’s ability to provide the needed match of 45% local to draw the 55% federal Medicaid Share. In addition, our Medicaid program unlike the states, are subject to a statutory cap in the form of a block grant that further limits our ability to fully cover medical care services for our people. Medicaid in American Samoa does not do individual enrollment but operates a presumptive eligibility program. Please contact the Medicaid office for more information at (684) 699-4777.
