Berg Sangha

Berg Sangha Berg Sangha is a community for people who enjoy spending time with meditation, nature, mountains, and silence.

We also organize retreats, where outdoor experiences (ski touring, climbing, etc.) are enriched by meditation and a sense of presence.

In Buddhism, it is said that the Buddha became enlightened sitting under an old fig tree, the Bodhi tree. Close to the Rohrauerhaus (the location of the Silent Mountain Retreat - Meditationskurs mit Stille) we have our own version of the Bodhi tree. Its presence exudes a sense of awe and peace.

We went to visit the Rohrauerhaus again and had a fantastic hike up to the Gr. Pyhrgas peak. On the way, we almost got caught in a thunderstorm. We were high up and saw it coming towards us over the Warscheneck. We heard the thunder really close, but in the last moment, it turned away towards the Pleschberg. What a beautiful adventure.
Oh, and we had lunch with Helene. She turned the Hofalmhütte into a gourmet spot with organic, regional and delicious food.

Outdoor Retreats since 2014

Everything started with the combination of ski-touring and meditation in a retreat setup. Martin knew Denis from various retreats with Open Dharma and the Dharma Yatra and Robert from several ski touring and avalanche safety courses. He knew they would be a great match.

At the first Walking in Snow Retreat, there were only seven participants, but we discovered that meditation and ski touring amplify each other in a beautiful way - and so do Denis and Robert when they teach together. Denis’ practical approach to meditation and to silence paired with the Roberts deep respect for nature and the mountains allowed people to come to peace and have a deep look into their inner landscape.

From there we started to have more retreats in nature. The Meeting the Rock Retreat followed and over the years the Austrian Sangha grew around these events. In November 2018 we will have our first Silent Mountain Retreat with Denis and let’s see how our community will grow further.
