Kintsugi Art Therapy Blog Journey with me on my own art therapy process in order to gain tools to heal and gild your soul. Unfortunately, our human nature makes this difficult.

Carl Jung said that ‘real liberation comes not from glossing over or repressing painful states of feeling, but only from experiencing them to the full’. I spent many years stifling and ignoring my own pain, and it was only when I allowed myself to be honest about my feelings through art and psychotherapy that I was able to heal and experience a new way of living. I have created this blog in order to help others so that these revelations can come sooner in life for them. I believe that the key to mental health lies in assessing and healing our own embarrassment and fear of our pain, and allowing our wounds to be open so that they can heal. This is why art therapy is such a blessing; it transcends beyond the ego’s resistance to acknowledging our pain and into a subconscious state of healing and understanding. I hope that this blog can aid you through your own journey to peace, love and self-acceptance.

Did you know that my crushed crystal mandalas are available to purchase? Comment MANDALA for details on how to purchase one.

For many years, people have celebrated the mandala as a tool for healing, meditation and insight. My mandalas are created as Art Nouveau style stained glass windows to the soul, and can be used to calm, connect or to simply add aesthetic beauty to your space.

About the Mandala Process

Before painting any of my original artworks, I light a candle and set a loving intention for the artwork. I then use amethyst or rose quartz infused water to wet my brush, and begin intuitively painting with crushed crystals and minerals (you can find the crystals used on the back of your artwork).
When you receive an original artwork by me, you are holding a completely unique piece, infused with love and care.
If you would like to buy or commission a mandala artwork, please contact me. Pricing starts at $120 for a small mounted mandala posted within Australia.

Love and Light,

Things can feel very painful while you are healing. It’s painful to let go of parts of yourself or your life (even though you don’t need them anymore). You were attached to them for so long!

The pain and the resulting mess aren’t brokenness or regression, they reflect you being put back together without the parts that you don’t need, leaving behind a sense of loss and emptiness.

You can gild these cracks with love while you are letting go. Pour in love to yourself and others. But most importantly, remember that you can be pieced back together, and will one day feel more whole than you have ever felt.

I’ve just finished reading The Intuition Toolkit, by Psychologist and Neuroscientist Joel Pearson, who presents a scientific argument as to why intuition is, in fact, a thing.

Pearson explores the science behind our intuition, discussing that we actually have eight senses, all of which are used to build an intuitive function.

Pearson looks at many situations where intuition has proved beneficial, sometimes lifesaving, in order to uncover the formula to whether you should listen to your gut instincts.

The gist of the formula is to SMILE:

S. Self-awareness: Check if your emotions are stable.
M. Mastery: Have you mastered the topic in some way?
I. Impulses: Are impulses or cravings absent?
L. Lacks Probability: Is a probability factor absent?
E. Environment: Are you familiar with the environment?

If you answer no to one or more of these factors, Pearson argues against using your intuition.

I found this book to be really interesting, as it scientifically proves the intuition I have often felt. Intuition is so useful, especially as a helper and this formula can help you connect with your inner self.

What are your thoughts? Is this formula something you would find useful in the future, or would you make changes? When has intuition helped you?

“Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about un-becoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.”

Paul Coelho

And what if our purpose in life isn’t to become anything? What if it is about chipping away at all the parts of ourselves that we don’t need so that we can unbecome everything that wasn’t really us?

Every experience, every joy and every loss chips away a part of us that we no longer need to hold on to. Every part of our journey purifies us so that we can become free to be our true selves.

As we begin to accept this, outcomes no longer matter. The “good”, and “bad” all serve a purpose, so we no longer need to label them, or fear them.

We are blessed to experience life so that we can ultimately heal and purify.

Want to sleep better? Disconnect tech one hour before bed.

Exposure to blue light, especially in the evening, can have a big impact on our sleep! It can trick our bodies into slowing down melatonin production, which is like our sleep superhero. It also affects the circadian rhythm, making it hard for the body to recognise when it’s time to sleep. This can make it a bit tricky to fall asleep, stay asleep, and enjoy that cozy, restful slumber we all cherish!

Starting tonight, why not turn off all of your screens at least an hour before bed?

Try this for a whole week, and notice the difference in your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Some other things you can do include:

1. Wearing blue light glasses (stylish orange lensed glasses that are bound to bring out a few giggles by your family) in the hours before bed.

2. Dimming screens in the evening or selecting night mode.

3. Buying amber light bulbs for your bedroom.

Mantra: Love

Do you struggle with racing thoughts? Why not try introducing a mantra into your day. Find a quiet, comfortable position and focus on the word, LOVE (you can really choose any word or phrase that resonates with you, such as God, peace, unity or strength)

Then spend some time meditating on the word or phrase you have chosen for up to 10 minutes. Any time that you become conscious of a thought, repeat your mantra, and then allow your mind to become still again.

After the exercise, consider how does it feel to have a quiet mind? Perhaps you can journal or create art around it.

Routines are a sequence of unconscious habits that give structure. The brain thrives on these predictable patterns, especially for those who experience difficulties from neurodiversity, anxiety or PTSD.

When a new routine is created, neural networks are activated. The more you repeat this action, the stronger these networks become. As these habits strengthen (some say it can take as little as 21 days), it becomes automatic and the decision part of your brain gets to rest.

Beginning your day with this sense of calm can have an incredible impact on the rest of your day.

Some things you might like to add into your routine are:

1. Meditation
2. Prayer or intention setting
3. Gratitude
4. Tea or coffee
5. Playing with animals
6. Walking or stretching
7. Creating art or music
8. A nourishing breakfast
9. Making the bed
10. Basking in the sun

A wilted rose is still beautiful. And you are beautiful, just as you are.

Spend a few minutes picturing yourself as the wilted rose, and practice letting any feelings of wanting to be something different to what you can be fall away. You can maybe create some art around the rose, and see what comes up for you.

Whoever pursues kindness will find life. How can you be kind to yourself and others today?
What can you give or forgive?
Try to take a moment in this glorious day to create a small piece of art that reflects what kindness means to you. Then put it up on your bathroom mirror or fridge as a beautiful reminder.

“We can’t cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy,” said Joseph Campbell.

We all deserve to live with joy. It isn’t something that you get from living an abundant life, it comes from rejoicing in small moments. This is an active choice that you can make.

Take a pen and paper, and draw at least five little things that bring you joy. Not anything that takes significant effort, just something as small as a walk, a hug or a cup of coffee.

Put the picture up on your fridge, and choose to bring at least one of these joys into your life each day, and watch as your life transforms.

You are special, just as you are. You are worthy of love, kindness and respect, simply because you were born.

Thanks Bill Atkinson for the beautiful guitar track.

Art therapy is not about the flower.

You don't have to be an artist to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of art. It's about expression without any purpose other than to gain deeper understanding and clarity about yourself.

So if you are feeling scared, take the plunge and begin creating whenever you can. And create it for YOU. The most important thing about your art is the message it is trying to share.
