Last week our SP & OT team hit pause for a much-needed team day! 🥳✨

We kicked things off with some housekeeping and admin chats, then gathered around our gratitude jar — sharing little moments and big shoutouts that reminded us why we do what we do (and why we’re so lucky to do it together). 🌼✨

Next came the Aldi resource shopping challenge: we split into teams, armed with a budget, a wish list, and absolutely no chill. We can’t wait to use these new toys with our clients! 😂🧸🛒

We regrouped for a shared lunch — stories swapped, snacks sampled, and Mackenzie’s gorgeous loaded white chocolate & biscoff cookies! 💬🍕🍪

Then came the sweetest part of the day: celebrating our wonderful Steph’s birthday! Complete with singing and cupcakes by our incredibly multi-talented admin Deb 🎂🎉🎶

And to wrap it all up, we channelled our inner (very abstract) artists at paint & sip. A splash of creativity, a sip of something nice, and a lot of laughter over our “masterpieces” (some destined for the clinic wall, some… maybe better kept in the cupboard). 🎨🍷😂

Team days like this aren’t just about stepping away from our desks — they’re about reconnecting, celebrating each other, and remembering why we love being part of this neuro-affirming, joy-filled practice! 💛🫶✨

🌿✨ This NAIDOC Week, we proudly celebrate and honour the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC Week this year marks a profound milestone — 50 years dedicated to uplifting and celebrating Indigenous voices, cultures and unshakable resilience. This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” honours not only the powerful achievements of the past, but also looks forward with hope and pride — to the strength of young leaders, the shared vision within communities, and the enduring legacy passed down from ancestors.

Together, we reflect, celebrate and commit to supporting this journey into the next chapter 🖤💛❤️

The illustrations in this design were created by Sheri Skele, also known as Bigi Nagala, a proud Bidjara woman and contemporary Aboriginal artist. Hailing from South West Queensland’s Bidjara land, rich in Indigenous heritage, healing sites, pristine bushlands, lagoons, wildlife, and ancient waterways, her work beautifully captures this sacred landscape.

From Adelaide to Melbourne! ✈️

Last Friday, our team of speech pathologists hit the road (and skies!) to attend the Tackling Tricky Cases workshop with the incredible Dr Amy Graham.
We’re always seeking ways to upskill. This workshop was packed with evidence-based strategies and plenty of “aha!” moments that we can’t wait to bring back to our sessions.

Big thanks to Amy Graham for sharing her knowledge and passion—our team left feeling inspired, empowered, and just a little bit speech-nerdy 💙 and to Sydney Speech Clinic for organising and bringing her to Australia.

✨ Let’s talk about stimming! ✨

Stimming, or self-stimulatory behaviour, is a form of self-expression and self-soothing for neurodivergent individuals, allowing them to navigate sensory stimuli uniquely.

Embracing stimming fosters inclusivity, recognizing that each person requires different supports to process sensory stimuli in their own authentic way. Acceptance of stimming promotes understanding and appreciation for the myriad ways our brains interpret and engage with the world around us! 🌈

What are some of your favourite ways to stim? ⬇️

At Nurture, we recognize the importance of honouring autistic social communication 🗣

We educate our clients around the communication differences between both autistics and neurotypicals, without forcing the autistic child to use neurotypical social communication in order to fit in (which would result in masking their autistic traits).

When we support out autistic clients with social communication, we do so in a way that affirms their communication and empowers them to develop skills that are meaningful and relevant to their individual needs, fostering self-expression, confidence, and authentic social connections 🌈

🌿 Meet Vanessa – Founder & Certified Practising Speech Pathologist 💬✨

Vanessa is the heart behind Nurture! She’s a Certified Practising Speechie with a Masters from Flinders Uni, and a big believer in family-centred, strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming care.

She founded Nurture to create a safe, inclusive space where neurodivergent people feel seen, respected, and celebrated. Vanessa values collaboration, cultural competence, and providing trauma-sensitive support that actually gets it.

When she’s not leading her amazing team or deep-diving into the latest neurodiversity research, you’ll find her hanging out with her two kids or reading Harry Potter fan fiction ⚡📚

🌈 April is Autism Acceptance Month

At Nurture, we honour and celebrate the autistic neurotype as a valid, natural part of human diversity. Acceptance means listening to autistic voices, respecting neurodivergent communication styles, and creating environments that actually support autistic needs — not suppress them or try and change them 💛♾️

Let’s move beyond awareness & build a world that embraces all neurotypes! 💗
