Were you affected and want to have your story heard?

“The Australian Human Rights Commission is examining the human rights impacts of Australia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a chance for you to tell your story about what happened to you.

The project seeks to understand how people were personally impacted by COVID-19 response measures and what gaps existed in the country’s pandemic response.

This will support the development of a human rights emergency and disaster framework to improve responses to future emergencies and disasters in Australia.

To inform this project, the Commission is seeking input from individuals through written story submissions.

The project’s findings will be presented in an interim report that will be published on the Australian Human Rights Commission website.

The Commission is calling for stories from people who were impacted by the national, state and community responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This process is intended to capture varied perspectives from people across diverse Australian communities. The Commission seeks to understand the impacts of pandemic responses on aspects of daily life such as health, family and employment.

We ask that your story describes how you were personally impacted during the pandemic. Stories can relate to any aspect of the country’s COVID-19 pandemic response such as lock downs, border closures, quarantine requirements, social distancing or school closures.

Story submissions can be made at the bottom of this webpage and must be no longer than 1,000 words. No attachments can be accepted through the portal.

An accessible PDF version of the story submission template [PDF, 142 KB] can be downloaded and emailed to emergencyresponse@humanrights.gov.au once completed.

Story submissions are open to anyone 18 years old and above. The experiences of children will be captured through separate targeted consultation.

Story submissions are due by Sunday 30th June 2024.

Story submissions should avoid including any personal information of others such as other people’s names, names of workplaces or schools, or addresses.

We understand that this subject may bring up difficult or distressing issues. Please see resources at the bottom of this page for support.”

I will attach a link below. Submissions close Sunday June 30.

Up to you if you want to fill out.

At least 65 million people around the world suffer from long COVID-19, with the majority of cases occurring in the productive age (36–50 years old). Individuals with long COVID-19 are confounded with multiple organ system dysfunctions, long-term organ injury sequelae, and a decreased quality of life.

There is an overlapping of risk factors between long COVID-19 and other postviral infection syndromes, so advances in research could also benefit other groups of patients. Long COVID-19 is the consequence of multiple immune system dysregulation, such as T-cell depletion, innate immune cell hyperactivity, lack of naive T and B cells, and elevated signature of pro-inflammatory cytokines, together with persistent severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 reservoir and other consequences of acute infection.

There is an activated condition of mast cells in long COVID-19, with abnormal granulation and excessive inflammatory cytokine release. A study by Weinstock et al. indicates that patients with long COVID-19 suffer the same clinical syndrome as patients with mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS).

Diagnosis and treatment of MCAS in patients with long COVID-19 will provide further symptomatic relief, and manage mast cell-mediated hyperinflammation states, which could be useful in the long-term control and recovery of such patients.

“The only constant in life is change”- Heraclitus 500BC, Greek Philosopher

The mythological figure of the Phoenix, best known for its ability to be engulfed in flames and rise again from the ashes contains within itself the entire process of death, renewal, and rebirth, of breaking down the old and building something new out of the wreckage.

The Phoenix is forever growing and changing, destroying what does not serve it and recreating something better. It encompasses the beauty and wisdom of death, destruction, change, and becoming.

In order to change and grow, there will always be releasing of limiting life experiences, self-limiting beliefs and traumas. In order to create space to allow new beginnings to occur, we must clear the way and experience endings.
