🚨 Medical support in sport shouldn’t be a luxury — it should be the standard.
This ABC article exposes a major gap in professional women’s sport — the lack of consistent access to physios, doctors, and performance staff. But let’s be clear: this isn’t just a women’s sport issue. It affects athletes of all genders, across all levels — professional, semi-professional, pre-elite, and community.
While a few sports and teams do get it right — where athlete health is prioritised and medical support is fully embedded — they remain the minority.
Too often, performance and medical teams are under-resourced or completely absent, while athletes are expected to deliver at increasingly high standards. It’s a dangerous mismatch — and it puts careers, wellbeing, and long-term participation at risk.
It’s time to shift the game. Physios, doctors, and performance staff aren’t extras — they’re game changers.
If we want athletes to reach their potential, we must invest in the people who keep them healthy, resilient, and ready to perform.
High performance starts with high-quality support. Let’s champion the teams behind the team — because that’s how we build a stronger future for sport.
