Meditation is a way to reduce stress. Meditation can also reduce anxiety, chronic pain, depression, heart disease and high blood pressure. The heart rate drops, your respiratory rate drops. There is decreased oxygen consumption, decreased carbon dioxide expired. The body is healing itself and starting to repair.

The mind naturally desires inner calm, inner clarity, inner peace and the mind naturally moves there if you get out of its way and let it. The teaching is that there is an inner ocean of quiet, stillness within us all and the mind will flow there if you let it. Trying to control the mind stops the flow towards stillness. Vedic meditation is a process for the mind to increase the gaps between our thoughts.
