Thanks for sharing NLC Psychology! A great reminder that self-care can look different for everyone 🥰 Happy International Self-Care Day!

🌿 Today is International Self-Care Day 🌿

Observed annually on July 24, this day symbolises the importance of self-care being accessible and practiced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This global initiative from the World Health Organization (WHO) reminds us that self-care isn’t selfish — it’s essential. Whether it’s taking five minutes to pause and breathe, going for a walk, talking to someone you trust, or setting boundaries that protect your energy, self-care can look different for everyone.

At NLC Psychology, our team often talks about how important it is to tune in to what you need – mentally, emotionally, and physically. It’s not always easy, but small, consistent acts of care can make a big difference.

Let's use today to reflect on our self-care practices and consider how we can integrate them into our daily lives 💛

Ever wondered "what should I wear to my appointment?"
Wearing comfortable and unrestrictive clothing can help your appointment run more smoothly - for both you and your practitioner!

👖 Coming in for a knee issue? Tight jeans might not be the most practical choice. Pick shorts instead.
👗 Got a back concern? A dress could make assessment or treatment a little tricky! Wearing something that your practitioner can easily work around to assess the area in question is best.
🏃‍♀️ Attending an exercise session? Activewear or unrestrictive clothing is ideal!

If you're ever unsure, just ask! Don’t worry, we have a few spare pairs of shorts available if needed

🧠 Ongoing learning is an important part of what we do, and we love getting together each month to reflect, upskill, and collaborate.

This month, our Physio team gathered in Malvern’s Pilates Studio for a practical session led by Bec Thiele, exploring intermediate to advanced Pilates-based exercises and strength & conditioning strategies.

Meanwhile, iNform Health and Fitness Solutions' Exercise Physiology and Exercise Science team took part in a very relevant and engaging session with Brian Gabriels on “Applying Psychotherapeutic Principles to Physiological Practice: Enhancing Behavioural Change and Client Engagement".

These sessions are always a great opportunity to grow as clinicians and stay connected as a team!

Did you know not everyone with ADHD is hyperactive?

Many people are surprised to learn that ADHD comes in three different subtypes: hyperactive, inattentive, and combined. That means not everyone with ADHD is bouncing off the walls — in fact, some people don’t show any outward signs of hyperactivity at all.

For many girls and women, ADHD can look more like constant mental chatter, trouble focusing, or feeling restless on the inside. Because it’s less obvious, it often goes unnoticed or misunderstood.

At NLC Psychology, we want to help shift the conversation around ADHD. The more we understand the different ways it can show up, the better we can support neurodivergent people to thrive in their own way.

Our Exercise Physiologists and Exercise Scientists are now using cutting-edge tools like VO2 max testing to help you get the most out of your training!

What is VO2 max?
It’s the gold standard for measuring cardiovascular fitness — showing how efficiently your body uses oxygen during high-intensity exercise.
In a quick and safe session on a treadmill or bike, we analyse your oxygen intake and carbon dioxide output to determine your maximum aerobic capacity 🚴‍♂️

Testing like this can help us to:
✅ Identify personalised heart rate and training zones
✅ Support smarter & more effective workouts with improved endurance, speed & fat burn
✅ Have objective progress tracking
✅ Provide an indicator of overall health and longevity

Ready to train smarter, not harder? Book a assessment with our team 💪

🧠✨ What an inspiring afternoon of learning and connection at our Malvern clinic last week!

Our latest professional development session brought together the teams from Move for Better Health Physios, iNform Health & Fitness, AC Podiatry, and NLC Psychology for a dynamic, multidisciplinary catch-up.

We kicked things off with a fantastic session led by Physiotherapist Emil and Psychologist Patrick, diving into the language of the NDIS. Drawing on Emil’s recent online training, we explored how understanding key NDIS terms and language used within participant goals so we can help us support clients more effectively across all allied health services.

Next came a quick-fire ideas round! We shared feedback on past multidisciplinary sessions and brainstormed what we’d love to see more of in future! We wrapped up with open discussions on how we can work even more seamlessly across our different teams. We discussed a range of things including navigating funding types and how we go about making cross-referrals and integrating our care approaches.

A big thank you to everyone who joined and contributed for the afternoon!
