Real talk - I nearly had to close up business in 2025.

This was after hitting multiple record months, and a record quarter that had me on track for a $150K+ FY in 2025-26.

But we’re amidst a financial recession in Australia, and nothing is ever certain in the fitness industry. Perhaps I got complacent too.

I applied for a lot of part-time jobs to try enable me to continue running INTG, but I got none of them. And the only person who knew about all of this was my wife who was pregnant at the time, going through her own daily challenges that I needed to be there for too.

But in a way I was relieved that I didn’t land any of those jobs, because I wouldn’t have been able to guarantee that I’d be able to give my business the full attention required to move it forwards again.

Glass half full, or a sign?

As a last ditch effort, I started taking on more clients through the NDIS for mentoring, support work, and personal training. This work kept the lights on while also being very rewarding, giving me a break from the toxic online fitness industry landscape.

Speaking of, I had poured my creative energy into a YouTube passion project which has re-sparked my enthusiasm for content creation - one of the things that had me regularly booked out for 5+ years before.

While I’m still finding myself in the fitness content creation space once again, finding the balance of what I want to post vs. what people will click, I’m here with no plans to turn off the lights in the future…I now have a new motivator, something I’m ready to protect with my life, something that depends on us both to provide for. 👶

Fast forward to today, my personal training books are 100% full. I’m working on myself to manage my own energy, chaotic mind, and creative ideas so that I can deliver the INTG Coaching that I’ve always dreamed of.

Leading into my first prep I was using more of a powerlifting hybrid programming style, and leaving too many reps in the tank to avoid overtraining. 😅

As a result, my shoulders were lacking, and tbh they had been my whole life.

But throughout my 18 month off-season and my second prep, I threw out my ‘optimal-chasing,’ ‘evidence-based bro’ fears to start training consistently hard, and doubled the volume of shoulders in my program.

The results speak for themselves.

So if you’re struggling to grow your shoulders, ask yourself if you’re truly training hard - perhaps you need someone to check you to shake you out of your comfort zone & recalibrate your perception of hard?

And ask yourself if you’re programming intelligently & specifically for your goals? Do you have a clear plan at all at present? 🤔

If you have ANY doubts about those questions, comment SHOULDERS and I’ll DM you to see if you qualify for a special results-guarantee offer for my online coaching.

If I were in a rush & wanted to make sure I was properly fuelled for training, here’s what I’d choose:

Blueberry muffin (or two) for carbs - These are very easy to eat quickly, and are relatively easy to absorb & digest. Not perfect as they still contain around 10gm fat, but they’re low on fibre & not very dense.

Rokeby Farms protein smoothie - Could have any low fat protein shake or 1-2 x protein yogurts.

Protein before training isn’t essential, and should be limited close to training, but if you’re only eating 3-4 times per day, you’re making life difficult if you aren’t including some protein pre-workout.

If you need 170gm protein but are only eating 3 times a day, that’s tricky, but have 30gm pre-workout as well, much more realistic.

This isn’t the ideal pre-workout that I recommend as a nutrition coach, nor would I like to have it often due to cost, but it’s a tool worth keeping in your toolbox for when you’re unprepared.

Join me for a typical busy Tuesday on the gym floor & office, while juggling being a dad & bodybuilder too!

Don’t expect this to look like the perfect routine or the best example of meals that I recommend as a nutritionist, this was unplanned, real and raw. 😅

If you enjoy seeing this sort of BTS content please let me know by leaving a comment, perhaps even suggest theme of the next one ie: check-in day or admin heavy days?
