⚽👟 Is heel pain slowing your child down in sport?
If your child is active and complaining of heel pain during or after sport, especially through a growth spurt, it could be Sever’s disease (calcaneal apophysitis), one of the most common causes of heel pain in kids aged 8–15.
Despite the name, Sever’s disease isn’t dangerous and doesn’t cause permanent damage, but it does need the right management. Repeated running, jumping and quick direction changes can irritate the heel growth plate, leading to pain, limping and reduced confidence in sport.
The good news? With early podiatry care, most children improve within weeks, not months.
At Healthy Life Foot Clinic, we take a whole body approach, managing load, footwear, foot mechanics, stretching and strengthening (at the right time), and using orthotics where needed, so kids can return to sport sooner, safer and with confidence.
Let’s get them back to doing what they love, pain free and enjoying their sport again!
