Here’s a recent 7News Adelaide story https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17ufJN5Rwu/ featuring a research project I’m involved in with the University of South Australia, led by Dr. Michelle Swift , Dr. Jocelyn Kernot, Dr. Cameron Raynes and Anna Bouras, as well as a fantastic team of improvisers. Unfortunately, Bob couldn't make it to this one- he's chilling in his hammock.
We are still recruiting for 2026. If you know a young person who stutters and may benefit from participating, please feel free to pass this on.
Participants can sign up via the QR code in the video or through the link in the comments.
For more information, please contact:
Dr Michelle Swift – michelle.swift@unisa.edu.au
This project has been approved by the University of South Australia’s Human Research Ethics Committee (Ethics Protocol 207216).
Thank you for helping us reach families who may be interested.

We are looking for children or teens (ages 7–15) who stutter to trial an exciting new therapy option for young people who stutter—combining Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Improv.

ACT helps build confidence and reduce anxiety around stuttering by focusing on mindfulness, values-based living, and being present. Improv provides opportunities to develop spontaneity, creativity, and risk-taking.

What’s involved?
• 6 x 2-hour workshops (outside school hours, in Adelaide). Groups will run in Term 4 2025 and Term 1 2026. Exact dates, times and location to be confirmed with those interested
• Separate workshops for 7-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-15 years
• Complete various assessment forms before, immediately after and 3 months post participating in the workshops (forms will be for the child participant and one for a parent/caregiver)
• 2 x 10-minute speech samples (in person or via telephone. Pre and post workshop)
• 1 x follow up interview (at 3-month data collection point)
• Participants in this research will be actively compensated by receiving 12 hours of therapy worth $600 with a qualified and experienced clinician. Additionally, participants will receive an honorarium of a $40 gift card once they have completed the post-therapy data collection and an additional $40 gift card after completion of the follow-up data collection and interview.

This project is being undertaken through the University of South Australia. Scan the QR code on the flyer or contact Dr Michelle Swift for further details at michelle.swift@unisa.edu.au

✨ Meet Blob — the stutter.

This video was created to help show people that stuttering is simply another way of talking — and that every voice deserves to be heard. It includes some simple tips for speaking to someone who has their own "Blob", and how awesome is for helping kids learn that it's okay to stutter and for making friends.

🎥 At Speech Craft Films we're about helping people share their stories, their way. Whether they're located in the city, or the country, we can find a way to work together to help your tell your story.
