Lutheran Disability Services SA

Lutheran Disability Services SA Lutheran Disability Services (LDS) was formed in 1986 to provide a home for five people living with disability.

We are a registered NDIS provider specialising in Supported Independent Living (SIL), In Home Supports, Individualised Living Options (ILO), and Community Participation to over 85 clients in South Australia. Their families came together to lease Shimron House in Unley … and LDS was born. Throughout the intervening years, LDS has grown, as more and more clients and families want to experience the unique service provided by the team within a Christian, high-moral environment where our clients are at the centre of everything we do. We work closely with clients’ families, advocates and nominees through every stage of LDS supports. We are committed to consultation, communication and partnership with all those we serve. Today LDS provides services for over 75 people living with disability through independent individually living, specialist disability accommodation and community participation programs. LDS is not just a service provider; we believe in our clients, and we care about them.

New CEO for LDS!

On behalf of the Board, I can report that the Chief Executive Officer recruitment process has been completed and I’m excited to announce that Sue Raw has been appointed as the new CEO of LDS.

Sue is an experienced chief executive officer and executive leader in the disability and community services sectors. Most recently she has been CEO of Baptist Care SA.

While she has strong commercial acumen and technical expertise, and a proven record of delivering on strategic priorities, the Board is most pleased that Sue’s personal values align well with LDS and she is passionate about ensuring our clients have opportunity to be connected with community, learn new skills, increase independence and access accommodation to lead fulfilling lives.

Sue is committed to values-based leadership and the Board is confident she will be an inclusive, decisive leader of our LDS staff.

Sue will commence with LDS on Monday 28 July and she is looking forward to connecting with staff, clients, supporters and other key stakeholders to listen and learn from your experiences and aspirations.

I invite everyone in the LDS community to welcome Sue and support her.

Kym Wallent
Chair, LDS Board

Did you know that Lutheran Disability Services (LDS) is a not-for-profit charitable organisation? With the end of financial year only a few days away, consider making a tax-deductible donation to an organisation dedicated to the safe, secure, and happy future of people with disability in your local community in Adelaide.

LDSSA has a rich history of going above and beyond for our clients. Through our tax-deductible charity status, you can help LDS to provide additional supports to our clients above the NDIS requirements to help enrich their lives.

Your donation can help us in continuing our work to include people with disability into the community. We do more than just provide a roof and support workers – we are here to connect friendships, integrate into community, and support individuals with a tailored and person-first approach.

Donations are used to support the development of better housing options, new community activities for clients to make friends and enhance their skills, encourage more fun activities such as purchase of extra sports equipment and art materials for use by clients in their home, and to create regular community events and get-togethers - not just celebrating milestones such as birthdays, Christmas and Easter.

Join us by supporting our mission to connect our clients to communities where they can belong and thrive. Donate here: https://ldssa.org.au/donate/

A warm welcome to our Interim CEO, David Nichol!

David Nichol has joined LDS as our interim CEO commencing this week. David’s role is to provide leadership, governance and support to LDS and the Board as we transition to our new CEO.

David has extensive corporate business experience in a range of roles in the finance, risk and assurance sectors. He is the past Chair of the Beyond Bank Foundation and continues to serve on national board. This combined with his Executive experience will be the bridge between our CEOs. The Board CEO Recruitment sub-committee expects to interview for the new CEO in late June and to announce shortly thereafter the successful candidate and their commencement date.

We welcome David to our community and look forward to helping LDS to continue to provide exceptional customer service to our clients, circle of support and our staff.

Over the past weekend, longtime housemates Stephen and Peter welcomed friends and family into their beautiful new home by New Dawn Housing, by hosting a housewarming party!🎈🎉

It was a lovely day to sit outside and catch up with friends, play some music, and cook some sausages on the new BBQ. Stephen helped out with the grilling, whilst Peter got his blue guitar out and strummed along to some rock'n'roll, a crowd favourite. Thank you to all who helped put together this celebration, and all that attended!

Together in orange! Some of our northern community got together over the weekend to celebrate Harmony Day with a BBQ picnic in the park. Everyone looked so bright and colourful, dressed in their orange shirts and accessories. Thank you to the team for putting together another fun event for our clients! What a great day to connect with others and raise awareness about the meaning of Harmony Day and week. 🧡

Harmony Week is a special time to celebrate Australia’s different cultures. It brings people from all backgrounds together. It is about including everyone, showing respect, and making sure everyone feels they belong. The message of Harmony Week is ‘everyone belongs’, and that’s what we live by here at LDSSA.
