Tender Beginnings Postpartum Doula 🫶🏼

• Postpartum Doula | Registered Nurse

Hi Mama, I thought it was about time that I introduced myself properly 🥰

I’m Maddie, I’m 25, a registered nurse and currently in the process of buying my first home with my wonderful partner ✨

I have always loved babies, finding myself drawn to them and always taking on the unofficial auntie Maddie role!! My mum often refers to me as the ‘baby whisperer’ and as much as I find it hard to admit, I do think this is quite true 😂😍

Whilst I’ve spent the last 3 years working as a registered nurse in the emergency department, I have also spent almost 10 years working as a disability support worker and a nanny for families with singletons and multiples 🫶🏼

Over the last year or so particularly I have found myself during my nannying and support shifts working closely with mamas and gently guiding and empowering them along their journey. I have found this so very rewarding and I believe the universe has been leading me slowly into this new role as a Doula ❤️

As I enter into this new role, I am filled with passion, joy and excitement for the work I have ahead and for all the mamas I will meet and support along the way and I cannot wait to get started 💫

2025 update…

If you’d asked me a few months ago what this year would look like, I would have painted a different picture, certainly one with more flexibility, but plans have shifted - though I should say, it’s not necessarily changed in a bad way. I’m leaning into trusting the process, trusting that this redirection is apart of something bigger and leading me towards what ultimately has been my life goal.

With that, my availability is changing significantly. From April, my capacity for support will be very limited. If you’re thinking about booking in, I still have availability until then.

Currently, I have one space available for August/September, and for any other dates, feel free to reach out to see if I have capacity. Beyond that, stay tuned for somethings exciting coming for mamas in the South with a fun, wholesome and nourishing collaboration 👀

Here’s to embracing the unknown, finding peace in the detours, and knowing that this journey—twists and all—is shaping something beautiful. 💫

Your postpartum experience can be smoother and more supported when you start planning early. Here are three simple yet impactful ways to begin preparing during your first trimester:

1. Save for Support
Set aside $10-$50 per week to fund postpartum helpers like a cleaner for the first six weeks after birth or a meal delivery service. These small savings can make a significant difference, reducing stress and allowing you to focus on bonding with your baby.

2. Research Professional Support and Start Learning Early
Explore local postpartum doulas, lactation consultants, or therapists who specialise in postpartum recovery and care. Engaging with these professionals early allows you to build a relationship and trust before your baby arrives. Many offer prenatal education sessions where you can learn vital skills such as:
🤱🏼 Breastfeeding Basics: Understand how breastfeeding works, common challenges, and techniques for a good latch. Having this knowledge beforehand can help you feel more confident and prepared.
👶🏼 Newborn Care: Learn how to bathe, swaddle, and soothe your baby. Many doulas or newborn care specialists provide hands-on classes or one-on-one guidance.
🚼 Newborn Play and Bonding: Discover simple ways to interact with and play with your newborn to support their development and deepen your connection.
By investing time in these supports and skills now, you’ll enter postpartum feeling empowered and more equipped to navigate this new chapter.

3. Prepare a Postpartum Entertainment Kit
Think about what will help you feel mentally refreshed during downtime. Include a mix of light and comforting entertainment, such as a favourite TV series, audiobooks, podcasts, or simple puzzle games on your phone. Having these ready means you’ll have something to lift your spirits or pass the time during those quiet (or not-so-quiet) moments.

By starting early, you’re giving yourself the gift of peace of mind and making your postpartum period more manageable and enjoyable 🫶🏼

The postpartum period comes with a significant hormone drop, which can leave you feeling low or overwhelmed. That’s why it’s so important to find ways to naturally boost your feel-good hormones during this time! Here are three simple ways to help you feel more balanced and connected:

🤱 Skin-to-Skin Contact: Holding your baby close, especially skin-to-skin, releases oxytocin, the love hormone, promoting bonding and reducing stress for both of you.

👶 Breastfeeding: Nursing triggers prolactin and oxytocin, supporting milk production and creating a deep connection with your baby.

🚶‍♀️ Gentle Movement: Light exercise like walking can elevate endorphins and dopamine, boosting your mood and energy.

Take small steps to nurture yourself as you nurture your little one! If you need more support, don’t hesitate to reach out, you’re not alone 💖
