We recently worked alongside Simon Chun-Yin Cho, one of our Youth Mentors, a qualified counsellor and the founder of Tao & Mind.

Simon supported our team through a Challenging Behaviours session grounded in real counselling practice and lived experience. The focus was on understanding behaviours linked to trauma or addiction, identifying early warning signs and responding to emotional dysregulation and meltdowns with greater confidence and awareness.

What made this work meaningful was how practical it felt. The learning supported teams to notice more, respond earlier and approach challenging moments with care, curiosity and clarity.

Collaborations like this strengthen the way we support young people, families, and the wider community.

Weโ€™re grateful to Simon for sharing his knowledge, experienc,e and time with our team ๐Ÿ’š

Sometimes it's not about one perfect job. It's about building a pathway. ๐Ÿš€

Maybe it starts with an entry-level role that builds confidence and experience. Or exploring different industries to discover what truly fits. Or working toward a long-term career goal one step at a time.

Employment journeys aren't linear, and they don't need to be.

What matters is having support that sees where you're going, not just where you are right now.

There's a difference between having a job and doing work that excites you. ๐Ÿ’ผ
Meaningful employment is about:
โœ… Work that matches your actual interests
โœ… A workplace where you feel valued
โœ… Support that lasts beyond the first day

It's not about rushing into the first available position. It's about taking time to find the right fit, preparing properly, and having someone in your corner when things get challenging.

Everyone deserves work that feels meaningful to them.

Parents, we hear you: "My young person is being too picky about jobs." ๐ŸŒŸ

But here's what we've learnt - being selective isn't always a bad thing.

When your young person says they only want certain types of work, they're showing self-awareness about what suits them. That's actually pretty valuable.

Starting with work they're genuinely interested in usually means:
โœ… They're more likely to stick with it through the tough bits
โœ… They build confidence faster
โœ… They naturally learn what they can be flexible about as they gain experience

The broadening happens through doing, not through us convincing them beforehand.
Our role? Support both of you through the journey. Help your young person understand workplace realities while respecting what they're telling us about themselves.

Employment journeys aren't straight lines, and that's completely okay.
If you'd like support navigating youth employment, we're here for the whole family.

Interviews can feel really intimidating. We get it. ๐Ÿ’ช
But here's the thing - with the right preparation, they feel less like a test and more like a conversation.

We help you:
โœ… Understand what employers are really asking (and how to answer in your own words)
โœ… Practise in a relaxed space where there's no pressure
โœ… Talk about your strengths without feeling awkward
โœ… Manage interview anxiety with strategies that actually work
โœ… Know your rights and when to ask for support

The goal isn't memorising perfect answers. It's helping you show up as yourself - prepared, confident, and ready.
When you walk in feeling prepared, interviews stop feeling so scary.

If you'd like support with interview prep, reach out. We're here to help.

One common misconception we hear is that Recruitment and Employment Support are the same thing.

Here's the simplest way to explain it:
- Recruitment finds the right person for the job.
- Employment support walks alongside you through the whole journey - from learning how to interview, to building workplace confidence, to making sure your employer knows how to support you too.

It's about setting both you and your employer up for success, not just getting you through the door.
When everyone feels supported, jobs stick.

That's what sustainable employment actually means.

If you'd like to chat about how employment support works, we're here.

We have a few openings available. ๐ŸŒŸ

If you've been thinking about youth mentoring or employment assistance, we currently have space for new participants in:
๐Ÿ’š Youth Mentoring: Building confidence, social skills, and independence through activities that match your interests
๐Ÿ’ผ Employment Assistance: Support with resumes, interviews, finding the right job fit, and workplace advocacy

Because we work with a smaller number of people, everyone gets support that's tailored to them, not a standard template.
