What about painful thumbs?
Osteoarthritis of the base of the thumb is a very common problem in those over 50, women greater than men. Often due to a combination of joint instability, load over time and genetic OA family history.
What can be done? Well there is quite a lot, exercises, appropriate splinting that supports the thumb and education on joint management.
The earlier these OA thumbs can be identified the more effective long term management can be.
