Carers do so much behind the scenes, every single day. We love seeing initiatives like this that give carers a small but meaningful break 💛

If you’re a registered carer, you may be eligible for $1.10 movie tickets at participating HOYTS cinemas in 2026 when attending with the person you care for. 🎬✨

HOYTS Cinemas is continuing to support carers in 2026, with discounted movie tickets for carers attending sessions with the person they care for.

From January–December 2026, eligible carers can purchase an adult ticket for $1.10 when presenting:
• A State or Territory Carers Association card, or
• Government-recognised carer identification (e.g. Healthcare Card or Centrelink Pension Card)

The offer is valid at participating HOYTS cinemas across Australia, for all sessions.

Please note:
✔ Carers must attend with the person they care for
✔ Maximum one discounted ticket per membership card per day
✔ Standard ticket rates apply if attending without the person you care for

We’re pleased to continue this partnership and support carers to enjoy a well-earned break.

Conditions apply. See here for more information: https://www.carersaustralia.com.au/hoyts-carer-concession/

Struggling with school or kindy drop-offs lately? You’re not alone.

We see this all the time - big feelings, clingy goodbyes, shutdowns, meltdowns, or kids who just can’t quite get going yet in the morning. Transitions are hard, especially when there are regulation needs, anxiety, sensory differences, or changes in routine.

Not sure if this is “normal” or needs support? You’re welcome to send us a message - we’re happy to point you in the right direction.

We’re expanding our PD workshops for teams supporting children across early learning, school, disability, and therapy settings.

Our sessions focus on practical, neuro-affirming strategies around regulation, sensory needs, transitions, and participation - using real scenarios and tools teams can apply straight away.

Suitable for:
- Kindergartens and early learning services
- Child care and OSHC programs
- Schools and inclusion/wellbeing teams
- Disability support teams
- Other Allied health practices

We’re happy to send through workshop formats, topics, and booking options. Save or share with a team leader or service manager who organises PD 📌👇

📌💡Developing Hand Dominance - 5 OT Tips

Hand dominance typically develops between ages 4–6 years and is a natural part of motor development. Before this age, it’s completely typical for children to switch hands during tasks!

Rather than encouraging a “preferred hand” too early, the focus should be on:
- Strong bilateral coordination (one hand helps, one hand works)
- Core and shoulder stability
- And opportunities for repeated, meaningful practice

A clear dominant hand usually emerges when the body is ready, not through pressure or correction. Offer the tool in the middle, let the child pick!

😴 Sleep struggles are more common than people realise - and they’re rarely just “bad habits.”

We often see bedtime challenges linked to:
- Regulation and nervous system overload
- Sensory sensitivities
- Anxiety and safety needs
- Difficulty winding down after big days
- Interoception and body awareness differences

If your child needs you to fall asleep, wakes overnight, or has big feelings at bedtime - you’re not failing. Their system might just need more support. Our Paediatric OTs work with families to build realistic, regulation-friendly sleep routines - not one-size-fits-all plans.

📌💡Scissor Skills - 5 OT Tips

1. Warm up with “Open, Shut Them” 🎶
2. Thumbs up, elbows in 👍
3. Start with snipping, not cutting. Begin with short snips in playdough, card, or straws before moving to paper lines or shapes.
4. Use two hands with purpose. One hand cuts, the other holds - help children stabilise the paper close to where they’re cutting.
5. Make it playful and short/ Songs, silly materials, and quick turns build confidence without fatigue or frustration.
