A protein is a strand of 20 amino acids made up in various ways for the body to use for building and repairing. 9 of these amino acids are what are known as Essential Aminos.
Plant proteins are generally missing at least 1 essential amino acid that is required to complete the protein strand for the body to use. Essential amino acids cannot be produced by the body (unless breaking muscle down) so finding a good pairing is key to getting the most out of your carbs (Plants, such as grains, fruits and vegetables) and holding on to our very important muscle.
Broccoli is missing 3 of these essential amino acids which basically means if you only ate broccoli and absolutely nothing else, your muscles would keep you alive until you have no muscle left.
A few examples of great pairing with broccoli are, carrots, sweetcorn, spinach and chia.

Phyto estrogens are plant based nutrients that mimic estrogen to help keep your hormone levels balanced when going through or after perimenopause.
This salad is made up of some of those nutrients.
There are many more, this is just a few that happen to go very well as a lunch time salad.
Add some protein such as chicken (hormone free) or boiled eggs and you have you plate sorted. ☺️

Here is a little bit of trivia that most People don't know, or possibly not even think about but..
When you consume too much of either sugar or flour, your blood sugars rise (to a dangerous level) so your body produces insulin to remove the sugars and deliver them to the cells in our body. When you are constantly eating more than your body needs, the cells reject it and send it away to be stored as fat. This is how you gain weight.
As if that isn't bad enough...
When your body has taken a huge amount of sugars out of your blood, it sends a signal to the brain to say EAT, as if you are starving. This is how people can binge eat, they train their body to store fat faster but then there is a common side effect of this, Type 2 Diabetes.

Think about it?

How often do you get stuck in this cycle? How often do you overeat even when you've promised yourself you wouldnt?

Eating the correct foods can reverse this condition (weight gain and insulin resistance) and keep you feeling full and satisfied. Retraining the brain and neural pathways is where we build will power.

As I always tell my clients, the food companies are trying to kill us whilst the pharmaceutical companies make us better. Guess who owns both?

Getting back to basics and getting away from packaged and processed foods is key to maintaining a healthy weight and body.

Learning about your own metabolism is also key to long term health and weight.

The benefit of having a personal nutrition plan is that is prepared to suit your individual metabolism.
Your age, height and weight determines your base metabolic rate but certain health conditions can change the way your body metabolises certain foods. Health conditions such as PCOS, diabetes, hypothyroidism, hashimotos, celiac, insulin resistance, menopause, gastric surgery and many more are considered when writing your plan.
You get to choose the foods that you like, some of us are very picky with foods and generic plans just don’t work for us. (I am one of these and the reason I designed my nutrition plans the way I do).

Watermelon… A few facts …
Even though watermelon is made up of 91% water, every 100g of raw watermelon contains 30 calories, most of them being simple sugars(carbohydrates); fructose, glucose and sucrose.
Although it is low calorie, it is also very low in fibre along with a high GI index score, which may change how your body uses those sugars, and store them as fat. 😬
Watermelon is the richest known source of citrulline, which converts to an essential amino acid Called Arginine which is needed for many of the bodies daily functions. The bad news is that it is found in the white rind that many of us throw away.
Other micronutrients found in watermelon are vitamins A (from beta- carotene) B5, & C, as well as potassium and copper.
Watermelon is a good all round choice of fruit but as with anything, moderation is key. 🍉
