It has been an absolute pleasure working with Mt Liebig school. The students' dedication during camp was inspiring, and their enthusiasm for learning about bush tucker, traditional medicine, and the local ecosystem was wonderful to see. The elders' involvement in passing on their knowledge is invaluable, and the school staff's commitment to providing these opportunities is truly commendable.

The trip to the fossil site behind Mt Liebig was a highlight, and the overall camp experience was exceptional. Everyone contributed, regardless of age or ability, creating a strong sense of community and teamwork. The combination of traditional methods and technology in our activities proved to be both effective and engaging.

Thank you for the opportunity to be part of such a positive and impactful experience.

It has been a privilege to return to Nyirripi School and work with the men and boys in the community. It's clear that the boys are eager to spend more time learning from the men, and the men are equally keen to share their knowledge. However, we are facing challenges in securing funding for longer-term programs that would facilitate this valuable intergenerational exchange.

The Life Again Foundation facilitates a cultural immersion program, bringing private school students from the coast to Central Australia to explore the Red Centre. As a guest speaker, I share my personal narrative of overcoming adversity and highlight the significance of my connection to the land and its indigenous people in my healing journey. To enhance the students' understanding, I present photographs of traditional tool-making methods and provide a hands-on experience with these artefacts.

The students respond enthusiastically, asking numerous questions and demonstrating a marked increase in their knowledge and appreciation of the subject matter. This enriching experience is set amidst the natural beauty of the Finke River creek bed.

The partnership with Mt Liebig school is yielding remarkable results. The students' progress from one camp to the next is evident. It is commendable that the students take initiative in maintaining the campsite, ensuring it remains clean and tidy.

Additionally, they demonstrate a strong work ethic by erecting tents and providing support to the elders during the camp. The students' positive attitude towards this on-country learning experience is a testament to its value and effectiveness.

In Kintore, I supported community members during meetings focused on addressing current crime issues. I consulted with the leading women and women of the community.

The women conveyed feelings of powerlessness in addressing the young people's behaviour. They emphasized the absence of programs for the youth. The women noted that there were no facilities for young offenders, and primarily, the young people sought food and money.

WILD1 collaborated with Nyirripi school to work with the boys, men, and grandmothers, fostering a sense of community and cultural connection. The men shared their expertise with the boys, teaching them how to create traditional number seven boomerangs and bean wood shields. As the boys held the shields and boomerangs, they radiated excitement and pride.

Through my years of experience, I have developed a deep understanding of what works, and the solutions are refreshingly straightforward. Country camps, driven by the community and focused on cultural heritage, have been instrumental in achieving success.

With an election coming up, and domestic violence and youth crime dominating the media covering Alice Springs, it's bewildering to think that so little has been done about men's programs in remote communities. This is the shed WILD1 operates from to conduct men's wellbeing and culture workshops. Men out bush deserve a decent space too. For now, we continue to work with what we have.

I was privileged to be sent to Kintore to assist in curbing a series of break-ins affecting the community. I worked alongside the community leader to facilitate meetings and explore solutions or ideas. The Kintore men were outspoken about securing support for men's initiatives.

They identified areas around the community and old buildings that could be renovated and repurposed. The men were worried about youth engaging in criminal activity but did not have the necessary resources to tackle the problem.

WILD1 wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!

WILD1 focuses on tailoring programs to individuals' needs, emphasising wellbeing and healing. The method of healing through cultural beliefs and values is often overlooked by the Australian health system.

Empowering individuals with a strong sense of self and leveraging their strengths can return power to the people. I use Indigenous approaches to health and wellbeing, which are on par with Western methods, and are frequently misunderstood and underutilised.

WILD1 holds qualifications in healing and tool-making from elders in the western desert. I draw on my own life experiences to promote understanding of Aboriginal cultural approaches to wellbeing, healing, and health.

These are some of the items I support men and young fellas to make when we are on country. I use the shields as a focus point to start talking about protection of family, lore and country.

As you can see this is a derelict shed in one of the most remote and under-serviced communities in Australia. But on a rare occasion the government put some money into the men's wellbeing space and I was lucky enough to give these men a week's worth of time in a safe space where we could discuss important issues for men and community. If only there were more opportunities. I can pull together projects with scraps, but imagine if there was some solid investment into the preventative space. NT Labor it would be useful if you could grow a backbone and make some change.

When you camp out on country it connects you to the land. The less barriers between you and the land the better. We don't make WILD1 camps fancy with all the camping gear, we try to get grounded on country as much as possible. A swag under the stars is the best way to go.

This is a rock hole on country in the western desert, still providing water to drink even today. The young women and elders on this camp shared an important connection to country on this day. After visiting the rock hole I really noticed a change in the young women. They were calmer and more engaged in activities on the camp. It was amazing to engage these young people who were on the verge of anti-social behaviour on this camp. Feedback after the camp was that the young girls were increasingly engaged in school and in the community and were being respectful and were back on track. I would like to thank the elder women and girls on this trip for the opportunity to share knowledge around healing.

Notice the smooth edges from people's hands reaching in for the fresh water. I often think of how many generations drank from this rock hole. We should all remember before this land was governed by non-aboriginal people, the first people lived and prospered here. With every government decision there is a negative impact on the first people of this land.
