The 𝗔𝗘𝗗 𝗠𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 is being driven across communities to identify, verify, and publicise the exact location of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at sporting venues and community club venues. The initiative empowers coaches, referees, volunteers, players, families and the general public to know where the nearest AED is and how to access it when every minute matters.
In support of greater community safety, the Chris Minns Labor Government's, Steve Kamper Office of Sport has provided $150,000 to the Heartbeat of Football Foundation to conduct the first-ever research into AED placement across NSW sports grounds and community spaces. The project identifies which facilities have AEDs, highlights locations that still need them, and guides future investment.
Sudden cardiac arrest can occur without warning. Early CPR and defibrillation significantly improve survival odds. International and Australian guidelines note that defibrillation within 3-5 minutes of collapse can result in survival rates as high as 50–70%, and that each minute of delay reduces survival by 7–10%.
Together, through a strong partnership with NSW Ambulance, Heartbeat of Sport is set to enrich the current 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗦𝗔𝗠 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 used to register AEDs across the state and help First Responders locate an AED in case of an emergency. A critical element of the project’s success lies in the proactive involvement of State Sporting Organisations, Partners and Local Government. This involves encouraging associations and clubs to complete AED registration surveys, ensure AED locations are accurately mapped and readily accessible when needed.
