Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is one of the most challenging aspects of managing people with epilepsy.

While its cause is not fully understood, open discussions about SUDEP risk and implementing strategies to reduce it can help save lives, says Professor Ingrid Scheffer AO, paediatric and adult epilepsy neurologist based at Austin Hospital and Chair of Paediatric Neurology at the University of Melbourne.

Professor Scheffer took the lead in the Australian Development Group of the Paediatric SUDEP and Seizure Safety Checklist introduced in Australia by Epilepsy Action Australia with the support of UCB.
