Internals of what?? 🫣 👀

Sounds scary but really it's just a way to check your muscles and their function like we would any other muscle in the body! I've been a little quieter on here of late, raising a little human and studying again is alot!

As of the ✨️ FOURTH OF AUGUST ✨️ I will be able to offer a pelvic health assessment  which can involve, if indicated an internal exam of your pelvic floor.

You don't have to be pregnant, 🤰planning on becoming pregnant or post partum to have an assessment. I absolutely love assessing and treating those who experience painful in*******se (everyone deserves the right to enjoy themselves 😉).

Birth does not always go to plan and that is OK! 🙌
No matter how much you educate yourself, exercise, drink herbal teas, practice spinning babies and mindfulness birth is unpredictable and can change rapidly.

Here are my three tips going into birth ✨️

Did your birth go "according to plan" I'd love to hear your birth stories 🥰🥰

How can I help you after you've given birth? 🤰
This is a more commonly known stage in your journey where a physio visit may be beneficial. Here are SOME but not all of the potential reasons you could see me 🙋‍♀️
Did you go straight back to running/exercise post baby? No judgement here! 🙆‍♀️

Why would I see a physio whilst I'm pregnant? 🤔
This week alone I have seen 3 beautiful soon to be mummas🤰 awaiting the arrival of their little ones. Some first time mums, others seasoned mummas awaiting bringing a sibling home to their first born.

I love helping you through this phase in your life. Whether it be for preventative care (my absolute favourite!!!) Or to help with those sore spots in the lead up to birth.

SAY WHAT? 🫨

A recent study found only 25% of women were referred for the treatment of their pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain! That is VERY low if you ask me.

You don't need a referral from your OB/GP to see a physio (like me 👋) to help. Health professionals what barriers do you face in recommending or referring women for treatment?

A few spaces left at this stage next week for all your physio needs 💆‍♀️

How can a Physio help me PRIOR to pregnancy?

I love helping women through all stages of their life whether that be for management of pelvic related pains, to help aid in fertility or even for generalised musculoskeletal concerns (think neck pain, back pain, post surgery or even ankle sprains).

You don't have to be pregnant or on the journey to become pregnant to book with me. I treat all ranges of physiotherapy however my passion is pregnancy/motherhood and babies.

Pregnancy related lower back pain & pelvic girdle pain 💥

❔️What is it?
❔️When would I experience it if I'm going to?
❔️How common is it?

Despite these statistics, pain in and around your back, hips, tailbone or legs is NOT NORMAL during pregnancy.

At Ballarat Pregnancy physio we love helping you find treatments that help you treat this awful 😖 pain. Don't think that you have to endure this! We can help.

Did you experience this during pregnancy? What helped you?

Birth story ~ part two

We got set up in the birthing suite and checked baby, he was fine (we didn't know the s*x until birth but I always thought it was a boy) and I continued to labour with the tens machine. Our obstetrician came in and offered to break my waters to get things moving as the contractions were still only 5-6 minutes apart and i had my first check discovering i was 3cm dilated. We decided to get the show on the road. Midwife handover happened and by this time I remember needing something more than the tens, the gas was hooked up and I swayed/rocked my hips while leaning over the bed and utilising the gas. The gas was a good distraction however made my head heavy and I struggled to keep my eyes open however, still felt every contraction. From here I don't remember a whole lot, time no longer existed and my eyes stayed closed (IYKYK) and at one point the remi was set up which was a great pain relief option! I tried to utilise the Swiss ball throughout my labour but everytime I moved from the standing over the bed position I was uncomfortable and resorted back to leaning over the bed (this proved very very tiring after a long labour!).

The remi was great but contractions were very quick by this stage, the midwife's checked and I was 7cm. I remember feeling utterly exhausted and wasn't sure how I could possibly continue (in reflection I was nearing transition!). It was by this stage close to 12am we opted for an epidural (anyone who is nervous about the epidural, let me tell you- you will not feel a thing, i had no idea it had even started/finished). BEST THING EVER INVENTED 🙌 I was able to lay on the bed for the first time in labour to rest my legs/body and hopefully dilate the rest of the way so we could get this baby out!

The midwife's called my obstetrician and he asked for them to check again to see if it was time to push.

~ Part three coming soon ~

INSTRUMENTAL BIRTHS
Leading on from my last post on induction of labour- the National Core Maternity Indicators 2019 also found that 26.1% of first time mothers required instruments in the delivery of their baby.
Did you have any instruments in your birth? Did you know prior to consenting to an instrumental birth the risks involved?
