✨ Celebrating 34 Years in a Job I Truly Love ✨
Back in 1991, I was a heavy smoker smoking 60 ci******es a day until my husband Ron’s serious health challenges (a heart attack and triple bypass surgery) gave me the push I needed to change. On April 19, 1991, I tried laser therapy for the first time. Honestly, I was skeptical… but it worked. That single session changed my life and helped me quit for good.
Inspired by my own journey, I trained as a laser therapist to help others like Ron who were being denied treatment because they smoked. What started as a one-month trip to Scotland in September 1991 to help 10 people turned into a lifetime mission. Thanks to the incredible Glaswegians and their word-of-mouth support, Scotland became my home.
Since 1992, I’ve been helping people quit smoking through laser therapy, and since 1994, I’ve been teaching others to do the same.
34 years later, I still wake up grateful every day to do what I love. I feel so lucky to play even a small role in changing people’s lives for the better. 💙

🎙️ What happens when a laser therapy pioneer drops by for a chat?
This week on A Week at the Clinic, Kevin caught up with James Carroll—founder of Thor Photomedicine and arguably the global face of photobiomodulation—for a fascinating behind-the-scenes conversation.
They covered everything from laser healing breakthroughs and regulatory red tape to the curious case of why PBM still isn’t widely taught in dental schools. Kevin even shared some success stories from Ballarat!
The full episode drops Sunday, but here’s a little teaser: PBM is no longer the future… it’s the present, and it’s glowing.

This week on A Week at the Clinic, we cross to Dublin where stem cells and low-level lasers are giving knee joints a second chance at greatness. 🦵💡
We tried to bring you Mary-Lou’s tale of triumph over a fractured toe (and her Camino dreams), but the 5G rollout had other ideas… So instead, enjoy a lively chat with Rupert and a divine choral treat from the Ballarat Singers singing Ubi Caritas.
Technology failed us. The music didn’t.

In this week’s episode, Sophie shares her story—her journey through laser therapy, the ups and downs, and what healing means when you least expect it.
It’s honest, heartfelt, and unmistakably Sophie.
With questions from Rupert, put to Sophie by Kevin as Rupert was still at a long Sunday lunch, this episode blurs the line between interview and monologue—and makes something quietly powerful in the process.

Supporting Your Body’s Natural Detox & Inflammation Response with Red Light Therapy
A gentle, effective approach to balance and healing
Every day, your body works hard to keep itself in balance—clearing out waste, calming inflammation, and defending against illness. But modern life places strain on this system. Stress, environmental toxins, processed foods, and long-standing health conditions can all tip the scales, leaving us feeling fatigued, sluggish, or inflamed.
At Ballarat Laser Therapy, we offer red light therapy (also known as low-level laser therapy or photobiomodulation) to help restore your body’s natural equilibrium—safely, gently, and without medication.
How It Helps
🟥 Detox Support
Red light therapy stimulates your cells’ energy centres—called mitochondria—boosting their ability to produce ATP (the fuel every cell needs). This extra energy helps your liver, kidneys, and lymphatic system do their job more efficiently, clearing out toxins and metabolic waste.
🟦 Improving Circulation & Drainage
By improving blood flow and supporting lymphatic drainage, red light therapy helps your body move waste products out of tissues and into the organs of elimination, where they can be safely processed and removed.
🟩 Easing Inflammation Naturally
Red light therapy has been shown to calm inflammatory processes at the cellular level—reducing swelling, easing pain, and encouraging repair, especially in cases of chronic inflammation.
The Result?
Many people report feeling clearer, more energetic, and more resilient after a course of red light therapy. It’s not a one-off fix—but as part of a holistic health approach, it can help your body function at its best.

Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) is the best technical term for Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT).
It is a light therapy using lasers or LEDs to improve tissue repair, reduce pain and inflammation wherever the beam is applied. Treatments take about 10-20 minutes and should be applied two or more times a week for an initial three-week period.
Photobiomodulation has been used for many years on sports injuries, arthritic joints, neuropathic pain syndromes, back and neck pain. Over 700 randomised clinical trials have been published on Photobiomodulation, half of which are on pain.
Those using LLLT include: British and US military, UK Premier Division soccer teams, Olympic teams, Formula 1, rugby and cricket team therapists as well as specialist pain clinics in Australia, the UK and USA.
