UTSTCC 2024

My .village colleagues , , Maheen (not in photo) and I had an incredibly enriching and fun Saturday judging the inaugural UTS Trans-Tasman Case Competition. The brilliant minds of 12 teams of business students from AU & NZ Universities were pitched against each other to “sell” us their business solutions for CSS’s “Stitch The Gap”: a social enterprise project to provide vulnerable CALD women a pathway to employment and financial independence through sewing. The goal is to repurpose fashion waste destined for landfill by creating unique and ethical fashion accessories and household items that highlight the individual and creative skills of each woman.

The students were given the case brief on Friday morning (beautifully put together by Hannah Cerezo and Cedric Kutschera, 2nd image ) and only 8h to produce a solution complete with timelines and financials! We were impressed by their performance and truly honoured to have been chosen as the case for 2024 🤩

Fitting that the event took place in the spectacular Frank Gehry building which houses the UTS Business School renowned for its sustainable design features. It’s fondly known as “the squashed brown paper bag building”😁 and won multiple awards. Last photo is a souvenir from the UTS Case Team, a button with Gehry’s first vision of his building drawn on a napkin. You can take a virtual tour of the building on the UTS site.
