Hey everyone! Meet our amazing Abbie,
Abbie: I am the Mental Health Clinician at headspace Bathurst and just graduated with a Bachelor of Social work at Charles Sturt University! (Woo Hoo!)
I started studying Social Work in 2021 and feel very proud for finishing my degree. I have been working in different roles with headspace since 2019 and have absolutely loved the amazing opportunity to work at headspace Bathurst in a new capacity as a social worker.
The most memorable moment during my degree was having the awesome opportunity to represent youth mental health with headspace National in Denmark at the International Youth Mental Health Conference. I learnt so much about the needs and what we can do to further support young people worldwide, and I still use this knowledge gained in my role today. It also confirmed that I really wanted to continue working with young people as a social worker in the future.
My advice for anyone else studying is that it is so important to put yourself and your needs first. Studying is an amazing opportunity, but it requires you to check in with yourself regularly, and to lean on your support networks to walk alongside you in your journey! You should be so proud of yourself!
I also want to acknowledge and give a massive thanks to headspace Bathurst and Marathon Health for supporting me during my final placement. I gained so much incredible knowledge and learnings from my time, and it was the most fun part of my whole degree, and am so grateful for the opportunity to come back as an employee to keep supporting young people and their mental health journey. ๐๐
We couldnโt be prouder of Abbieโs incredible accomplishments and the amazing work she does for headspace Bathurst and everyone she supports. ๐๐ผ
