Heellllooo Bathurst — I’m Marcus!!!

I’ve been the owner of Capital Chemist Bathurst for nearly 16 years, so many of you have either been stuck with me helping you… or just stuck chatting with me over the years.

My wife Hannah and I purchased what was then John Matthews & Co Pharmacy back in 2010 when we were both 24. We were young, full of enthusiasm, and just confident enough to not realise what we were getting ourselves into. While convincing Hannah to marry me was obviously the best decision of my life, moving to Bathurst is a very, very close second!

As most of you know, I love a chat and have a passion for helping people. I have been known to spend an hour serving a single customer… while my very patient wife, business partners, and team quietly keep the pharmacy running in the background. (This line was added without Marcus’s approval… but is unfortunately accurate!!)

My favourite thing about pharmacy is thinking outside the box to find better health solutions for my patients. That’s led to a range of services over the years — from veterans’ care, to improving indigenous health services, to helping patients navigate and access government funding — through to my current passion on improving patient outcomes through Home Care and NDIS, which has morphed into a national project.

I’m incredibly proud that our team has been recognised as the Best Pharmacy In NSW 2026, and I’m really looking forward to representing our state at the National Pharmacy Awards next month in QLD — hopefully returning as the Best Pharmacy In Australia!!!!

If you came into the pharmacy over the last two weeks, you may have had the chance to meet Francis, Pharmacy Student from UTS. It was such a pleasure to have Francis join our team (even if it was temporary!), he is easy-going, friendly, keen to learn and willing to always help out!
We’ve tried our best to convince him Bathurst is a great place to move to.. way more relaxed than the city 😉 🤞🏻

We were very thrilled to have Pharmacy Guild of Australia - NSW Branch President Mario Barone visit us on Wednesday! It was a great chance for us to demonstrate the passion and commitment our whole team has for the Bathurst community and the health of our patients.

Hi, I’m Spencer 👋
I proudly call Bathurst home. I have been a pharmacist for 10 years, and proudly became an owner of Capital Chemist Bathurst in 2025.

I originally moved to Sydney from Canada, then studied pharmacy in Adelaide before moving to Bathurst. My wife and I moved to Bathurst 5 years ago, and it has been our home ever since!

I’m especially passionate about men's health, and using technology in health care to solve problems and improve patient outcomes. I love supporting our local families, seniors, and everyone in between. To me, a pharmacy should be a trusted and accessible health care destination.

Being recognised as NSW Pharmacy of the Year is an incredible honour, and it reflects the dedication of our amazing team and the support of the Bathurst community. I’m excited to continue serving our town and supporting Capital Chemist Bathurst as a healthcare destination.

Hi! My name is Jessica and I have proudly called Bathurst home for 25 years. I’m a qualified compounding pharmacist with a passion for women’s and children’s health. I love giving back to the community, and am always working on new ways to support community groups and services and enhance our community spirit here at Capital Chemist Bathurst.

Being recognised as NSW Pharmacy of the Year is an incredible honour and a meaningful celebration of the last six years of my ownership journey, made possible by my wonderful family, great business partners and our amazing team who support our vision every day!

I am looking forward to attending the APP Conference in March, connecting with fellow pharmacists, and bringing back new inspirations to support the Bathurst community even more. It would be a great honour to bring home the National Pharmacy of the Year win, but regardless of the outcome, I am very proud of our Team and what we achieve for our patients!

Hi, I'm Kyle 👋
I've been a Pharmacist for 10 years and became a proud owner of Capital Chemist Bathurst in 2025.

I studied Pharmacy at Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga Campus, and moved to Bathurst 5 years ago to be closer to my wife's family - a move that quickly made this town feel like home.

I have a strong passion for community engagment, with a particular interest in aged care and supporting people living with chronic pain. I believe a pharmacy should be an active, trusted part of the community- not just somewhere you pick up a script.

Being named NSW Pharmacy of the Year is a huge honour and one i am incredibly grateful for. You'll still find me doing what i've always done- serving customers, having a chat and looking after our community.

Please join us in officially welcoming our newest Intern Pharmacist, Reese.

Reese is originally from Wangaratta, Victoria, and completed her Pharmacy degree at Charles Sturt University, Orange.

She has a passion for complex compounding and chronic disease state management, and brings a unique perspective to her role as a Type 1 diabetic, giving her firsthand insight into the daily complexities of living with a chronic condition.

With a big year ahead, Reese is very excited to gain hands-on experience, continue learning, and is aiming to be fully registered by the end of the year.
