Today we're shining the spotlight on some true HOSPO Health superstars! ✨

Join us as we give a big shout out to the amazing people and team recognised by HOSPO Health at this year’s Hospitality Tasmania Awards for Excellence!

First up, our HOSPO Health Champions (we couldn’t pick just one!)
🌟 Ben Targett, CEO of Orient Hotel and Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel, and
🌟 Trent Thompson, GM of Freycinet Lodge

Ben and Trent are both great examples of what it means to lead from the top, supporting their teams, creating positive workplace cultures, and continuing to grow and learn themselves. They’ve backed HOSPO Health from the very beginning, and it’s been inspiring to watch the impact they’ve had across their workplaces and the wider industry. Huge congrats, Ben and Trent!

🌟And another huge shoutout to our HOSPO Health Business of the Year 2024–25, .

Led by the wonderful Lesley Van Tuil and Dave Lawrence, the Brewlab crew show what happens when great leadership, care and wellbeing come together. We had an absolute blast working with them through our case study program, with sessions full of laughter, honesty and connection. This is one tight-knit team who genuinely care for each other, their customers and their community. Well done to the whole Brewlab team on this well-deserved recognition! 🙌

Today we're shining the spotlight on our HOSPO Health superstars - incredible individuals and a team who were recognised at this year's Hospitality Tasmania Awards for Excellence.

Congratulations to our HOSPO Health Champions (it was impossible to narrow it down so we have two well deserving recipients):
🌟 Ben Targett, CEO of Hadley's Orient Hotel and The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel, and
🌟 Trent Thompson, GM of Freycinet Lodge.

Both Ben and Trent truly exemplify leading from the top, supporting their staff, creating cultures of wellbeing, and continuing to grow and learn themselves. They’ve both been passionate supporters of HOSPO Health since our early days, and we couldn’t be prouder to recognise them as leaders who make a difference in their own businesses and in the industry every day. Well done, Ben and Trent!

🌟 And a huge congratulations to our HOSPO Health Business of the Year 2024-25, Brewlab!

Led by the amazing Lesley Van Tuil and Dave Lawrence, Brewlab has shown what’s possible when leadership, care and wellbeing come together. As part of our case study program, we worked closely with the Brewlab team through workshops and information sessions filled with laughter, vulnerability and connection. This is a strong, united group who care deeply about each other, their business and their customers, and it shows.

Here’s to your good health!

Loved seeing our work spotlighted in today’s The Mercury Newspaper with our Hospitality Tasmania Award Winners Brewlab — shining a light on how health literacy + workplace culture + prevention can lift the whole hospitality sector.

HOSPO Health is about making wellbeing practical:
• leaders speaking the same language
• simple, repeatable habits on the floor and in the office
• real tools that help teams feel better and perform better

Huge thanks to the venues, partners and champions who keep saying “yes” to doing the work. When businesses back prevention, everyone wins — staff, customers and community.

So proud to see our HOSPO Health Leaders Program launched!

This program features the best of the best — leaders in their fields of expertise:
Chief Happiness Officer, Sherri Ring, Organisational psychology, leadership, and workplace mental health, Professor Angela Martin , Public health, health promotion, and workplace wellbeing systems, Dr Sarah Dawkins, and Mindfulness, behaviour change, and positive psychology, Dr Larissa Bartlett.

It’s endorsed and developed in consultation with these brilliant minds to make sure it truly delivers on its promise — transforming wellbeing from a “nice to have” into a genuine leadership priority.

The HOSPO Health Leaders Program is driving real cultural and leadership change across our industry — embedding wellbeing into how we lead, not just what we say.

A huge shout-out to the 10 amazing hospitality businesses across Tasmania who are making this a priority and showing what prevention-based health looks like in action.

And a big thank you to the minister for hospitality and tourism, Hon. Jane Howlett MP and the Tasmanian Government for their support, and to Steve Old and the Hospitality Tasmania team for their unwavering leadership in making this program possible.

Together, we’re proving that when government and industry collaborate, real wellbeing happens — not just awareness, but action.

Exciting day for hospitality and wellbeing in Tasmania!

Today, the Tasmanian Government and Hospitality Tasmania officially launched the HOSPO Health Leaders Program — a long-term initiative designed to create healthier, stronger, and more sustainable hospitality workplaces across our state.

It’s been such a privilege to build and deliver this program, with the support of the Tasmanian Government. Together, we’re seeing real change — not just in individual health and wellbeing, but in the culture and leadership of our industry.

This program is about prevention, connection, and leadership. It’s about giving our industry the tools to thrive — because when our people are well, our businesses are well.

A huge thank you to Minister for Hospitality and Tourism Hon. Jane Howlett and our CEO, Steve Old, for backing this work and leading from the top.

🌸 Women’s Health Week: 10 Everyday Habits for Better Wellbeing 🌸

Working in hospitality is busy and demanding — but small, simple choices can make a big difference for your health. This week, we’re shining a light on practical steps women in hospo can take to look after themselves:

1️⃣ Prioritise good sleep – aim for 7–9 hours when you can.
2️⃣ Fuel your body with colourful fruits, veg, whole grains & lean protein.
3️⃣ Move daily – even a quick 10-minute walk counts.
4️⃣ Take time for yourself – read, stretch, breathe.
5️⃣ Stay on top of hydration – water is your best friend on long shifts.
6️⃣ Book those important check-ups & screenings.
7️⃣ Talk it out – share with someone you trust if you’re struggling.
8️⃣ Protect your skin – sunscreen, shade, and hydration.
9️⃣ Notice changes in your body & mood – check in with yourself.
🔟 Remember: rest isn’t a luxury, it’s essential.

💜 At HOSPO Health, we’re here to remind women in hospitality: you matter. Your health matters. This week (and every week), put yourself on the list.
