If your back keeps flaring up, it might not be weakness, it could be a core that isn’t switching on when you need it most.
Back pain is often linked to areas of joint restriction or stiffness in the spine and pelvis that limit normal movement and place extra stress on surrounding muscles, discs, and nerves. When a joint isn’t moving well, nearby muscles tighten or over-work to compensate, which can lead to recurring tension and reduced flexibility. Chiropractic care helps restore healthier joint motion and reduce mechanical irritation so the body can move more freely.

For longer-term change, the body also needs muscular support, this is where the core becomes essential. The core is not just your “six-pack” muscles. It is a deep, 360-degree support system made up of:
• Abdominals: act like a natural corset around the waist
• Spinal stabilisers: support each spinal segment
• Diaphragm: your primary breathing muscle at the base of the ribs
• Pelvic floor: muscles at the base of the pelvis that assist with stability and continence
• Glutes and hip stabilisers: provide power and balance for movement

Together, these muscles create an internal brace that supports the spine before you even consciously move. When they are weak, poorly timed, or fatigued, the lower back often carries more load than it should, increasing the likelihood of stiffness or flare-ups.

✨ Simple Tips to Activate Your Core ✨
• Breathe low and slow — allow your belly and lower ribs to gently expand as you inhale.
• On the exhale, lightly draw your lower abdomen inward (about 20–30% effort, not forceful).
• Keep breathing normally — if you’re holding your breath, you’re bracing too hard.
• Practise during daily tasks like getting out of a chair, lifting groceries, or rolling in bed.
• Focus on endurance and consistency rather than intensity.

Chiropractic adjustments help restore movement where joints are restricted, while core activation and strengthening help maintain those improvements by providing stability between visits. When mobility and muscular control work together, the spine is better supported, movements feel smoother, and the frequency and intensity of back pain episodes often reduce.
