A Little Artsy has art therapy appointments available on Wednesday and Thursdays.

If you have, or know of, a young person who would benefit from psychotherapy that uses creative expression, rather than words, we are now taking bookings.

Together we can explore emotions, build self awareness, and support mental health wellbeing.

When things feel hard or boring, our imaginations can be the most powerful tool we have!

Some sessions this week have allowed children to escape the challenges of returning to school, through their creativity and imagination, as we invented our ideal schools.

There are concerts, sports, famous people, animals, bean bags… there’s even a Disney castle (may have been mine) and a remote island.

While all designs were fabulously elaborate, the features they all have in common are comfort, space, quiet zones and a focus on special interests!! 🤔🤔 Hmmmm… food for thought!!!

Returning to school can stir up so many different feelings for kids and parents… and they are all valid.

I hope all the kids return to school smoothly for a fabulous Term 3!

This week, we are celebrating neurodiversity and embracing the unique perspectives that come with it. Neurodiversity is a beautiful reminder that our brains work in different, but equally amazing ways.

Whether you're navigating the world through ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or any other neurodivergent experience, your brain and your creativity are something to be celebrated.

As an art therapist, I believe in the power of self-expression through creativity. Every day, I am blessed to witness the creativity, different perspectives, the passion and the humour of children who are neurodivergent. I strive to offer a space where they can express their inner worlds and explore new possibilities, while feeling safe and supported.

Let’s continue to create spaces where neurodiverse voices are heard, celebrated, and valued. We are all unique, and that’s what makes us powerful.

When words just aren’t enough!!

Not only does mess making feel free and fun, the texture of paint on skin provides a sensory rich experience for children.

This feeling can help soothe anxiety, improve self regulation and helps connect clients with their bodies.

The vigorous motion, using the whole body, can help expel frustration, manage stress and also create a calming rhythm.

Sometimes it’s just what we need at the end of the week!!

When “up to your armpits in mess” means literally that!!

Many children find shaving foam to be a very calming, therapeutic medium. The messy nature of it allows them to explore different textures without concern for order or cleanliness.

The soft, fluffy texture of shaving foam is often regulating for clients after a big day/week of school!

After “What IS art therapy?”… the second most common question I get asked is “Isn’t art therapy the same as an art class?”

This is a common misconception, made by many different professions. Educating people around the benefits of art therapy, and the differences between therapy and art classes is an important aspect of our work!

I have endeavoured to display the differences here…
