What is the NDIS

The NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme and is an initiative by our government to allow people with disability to live as normally and independently as possible with the care and support that they need in all spheres of life. With NDIS funding, participants can receive support to help them find employment, suitable accommodation, disability-friendly transport and in-home nursing for high intensity care. You can have a care worker with you 24/7, get someone to assist with cleaning your home and participate in community events, according to your needs. How Do I Know If I’m Eligible?

As long as you are living in Australia as a permanent resident, citizen or special category visa holder, and have a disability, you will most likely be eligible for NDIS funding. You need to be between the ages of 7 and 65 and have a reasonable and necessary need for support due to disability caused by a permanent impairment to qualify. Children younger than 7 with developmental delays or disability may receive support through the Early Childhood Approach and people over 65 may seek support from the My Aged Care programme.
