Reflux and indigestion are always associated with a burning sensation in the mouth or throat, or a yucky taste in the mouth. Many aren't aware of "silent reflux", where we are still getting stomach acid coming up and irritating the throat, but no symptoms are really showing. The danger here is damage is occurring and you don't even know unless it worsens or other symptoms develop.
Though more common in men, I have been seeing an increase in women suffering this condition. Often I find there's quite a distinct cough with silent reflux, like your gently trying to clear your throat for no reason. Often abdominal palpation reveals tender or hard spots near the diaphragm showing what's underneath is not happy.
So what do you do? Obviously look at diet: alcohol and spicy/acidic foods are often aggravating factors along with ultra processed foods.
The concern here is it is often a sign of deeper digestive issues we need to investigate. Chronic reflux can lead to permanent damage to your throat and increase your risks of cancer and ulceration.
Whilst everyone at some point will get some reflux, either due to stress, poor diet etc. It should be short term and easily resolved. When it is chronic and unresponsive to diet/lifestyle changes, we need to investigate and seek treatment.
