The Best Was Yet To Come - Memorial Day

The Best Was Yet To Come - Memorial Day The Best Was Yet To Come ! No other words could better describe the loss of a son or daughter. No parent should ever have to out live their child.

My name is Maureen Buckley I have been a resident of Blacktown for over 50 years. I am also a registered nurse at Blacktown Hospital. I am the mother of 3 late children who all passed away from Cystic Fibrosis. My last daughter to pass was Lisa at the age of 19. After her passing in 2009, 4 of her close friends and local teenagers held a get together to remember their friend Lisa and to raise money in her memory. Having difficulties dealing with my grief, these 4 beautiful young teenagers handed me the carriage of their fundraiser in 2012. As the Lead Organised for what was originally " the Best Was Yet To Come" Memorial Picnic, a fundraiser for Cystic fibrosis NSW, it has now developed and grown to the beginnings of a "National Day" for all parents who have lost a son or daughter for whatever reason. The very first fundraising event raised $426 last years event raised $30,000. My goal is to have a " National Day" to recognised across all states and territories while simultaneously holding events to raise money for charities nominated by the families as they post a photo of their loved one on the " Memory Wall" at the event.
