*Support for Cost of Living* Autumn and winter can be the perfect time to get that all important clinical supervision in AAT, integrated therapies or OT. I have put together a special offer to help with the cost of living crisis. Because it is getting more and more difficult to afford supervision and essential PD, especially in private practice.

If we work on the quirkier edges of professional scope of practice, it is even more important to connect with someone experienced in the field to ensure best practice and your own development.

Cosy up inside for an online chat about your practice - go deeper into how integrative practice works and the most authentic way for you to blend your different ways of working while being in scope.

I am offering an autumn/winter discount - block of 4 sessions for the price of 3. Book in for May, June, July, August.

Perfect for a project, finding balance and focus, animal wellbeing, trauma or ND informed practice, or simply upskilling on meditation, paeds or mental health approaches.

Book into my calendar at times that suit you. Contact admin@barefoottherapists.com.au

We are outdoor people offering programs that are practical and helpful in real time with real equine therapists.

Right now we are probably in the paddock doing what we love. We don’t prioritise time for hustling on social media looking for more clout, so you won’t find that here.

But if you like what we offer, get in touch. We are very flexible in how we teach and support people. So reach out for real human connection and we can work together elsewhere.

Ways to connect. Sarah Munn is our main contributor and organiser. Email enquiries@sarahmunn.com.au and be pointed in the right direction for your next step. If we can’t help you, we may know someone else who can.

Collaborators include the Barefoot portfolio and Gadara Farm our usual Victoria venue.

Next up is Equine Reiki Level 2 in March at Victoria. Designed for therapists who want to provide wellbeing for their horses. Being present and working with energy is very in line with horses. Also equips you with tools for working with Reiki energy for humans and other animals. Recent studies found that reiki practitioners achieved better medical markers than the control group who just had hands on without the reiki. Interesting. And you can often observe the horses reacting in your presence, relaxing, and displaying signs of stress relief, and even laying down. Sounds like magic, but is actually just energetic. You need you reiki level one for this one.

Thanks to the Equine Reiki Collective for their Level One program for spreading the love not only to therapists working with horses, but to animal and human lovers in general.

ETA HORSE FACTS. We know that some equine assisted therapists think about Equine Chakras and use some natural approaches to wellbeing. While we know this is not evidence based (yet) there is much anecdotal evidence that working with energy chakras and meridians are thought to be helpful when working with horses - there is an upsurge in horse folk getting trained in these complementary practices. And did you know…..most mammals have additional chakras to humans. The Bud chakras under each hoof, and the Brachial chakra on the shoulder of each side where the brachial plexus is which is thought to be the energy centre of animals. These are additional to the 7 they share with humans. And we all know a lot starts at the shoulder. So send it love.

Don’t miss out on February start dates. Get them on your fridge today and make a step towards your goals. These are professionally developed, educational and transformative courses. The experience of learning together is often a very powerful one and helps you toward living a life in alignment with yourself.

Equine Assisted Therapy is for allied health professionals to get you set up with confidence and learn what you need to do within your competencies. I work with you personally around your horse skills, knowledge and how to apply animal assisted therapy principles within your scope of practice. We get you thinking through the policies and procedures and risk assessments needed and fill your toolkit with practical ideas you can actually use.

Equine Reiki is for anyone who wants to learn about healing energy. You don’t have to be horsey for this one and it equips you to do self reiki and reiki with your pets, friends and family. Book in for Level 2 as well if you want to work in the healing sector. We love the horses to be involved in teaching reiki, as they can really show us the way. Also working with animals as well as humans sets you up to start helping your own horses and pets access healing energy if that’s the way lit up for you.

ETA HORSE FACTS. Did you know that long grass is nowhere near as toxic as short new shoots for little ponies who are at risk of laminitis. However if you’ve saved a long paddock or standing hay for the dry spell it’s also a risk for colic if they have too much.

Just like anything, little and often keeps the gut working, and gradual changes to diet are tolerated easier. If you are used to bigger horses and get a pony for your practice, do your research into their diet, your grass types, their history of laminitis, and consider who they can be paddocked with. The pain from toxicity in the hooves and gut is avoidable and reduces care in the long term if properly paddocked and fed in the first place. This little Shetland certainly couldn’t be turned out on grass like this for long. But an hour or so on regular occasions can reduce the need for hard feed and provide emotional enrichment. If they never get laminitis they can have a nice long life being allowed time in the naturally long paddocks. Native grasses are the best. Lawn and cattle fattening grasses are usually higher in toxicity so know your grass varieties as well.
