No matter what your goals are, I always start my relationship with clients with a holistic and personalised consultation. We explore your aesthetic goals, current lifestyle and treatment concerns. Clients often also bring in the products they’re currently using so I can assess whether to integrate them into the program or replace them with something more effective.

As I’m a qualified GP as well as aesthetic specialist, I always consider overall health and wellbeing in the overall aesthetic outcomes for my patients. Some of factors I take into account when seeing a client are:

• Skin type, ethnicity, age
• Budget and lifestyle
• Level of activity
• Overall health and dietary factors
• Goals, aspirations and insecurities (yes, we all have them!)

To make the most of the first appointment, I also ask clients to do the following:

• Come in with a clean face, or minimal makeup
• Bring your regular products in
• Think about your goals and what you’d like to achieve
• Come with an open mind and long-term view

So, what are you waiting for? Book a customised skin consult and let's chat about your goals.

Happy weekend! As we bask in beauty of Autumn in the Southern Highlands, we’re also dreaming of destinations afar… one of my favourite places in the world is Italy and a part I’ve always wanted to explore, the Dolomites is on my must-visit list in the next two years.

Taking time out is important to refresh and renew, inspire and dream. Sometimes, dreaming of destinations is almost as fun as going...

If you could go anywhere for a dream escape (no limits!), where would you go?

We all age. It’s completely natural. But sometimes looking in the mirror and feel we don’t look the way we feel on the inside, and we want a ‘refresh’. Not to look different or like someone else, but to look our best selves.

To manage signs of ageing, I recommend a personalised approach delivered over time as each of our needs, aspirations, budgets and lifestyles are different.

Individual beauty evolution programs are planned and most effective with a combination of at home and in clinic treatments.

Common signs of natural ageing and treatments include (but are not limited to):

• Skin laxity (elastosis): the loss of elastic tissue of the skin

Treatment suggestion: skin tightening treatments such as microneedling, hyaluronic acids, bio remodelling agents.

• Skin pigmentation (lentigos): Sun damage to pigmentation of the skin (dark spots)

Treatment suggestion: laser, at home masks, skin creams peels, prescription care, microneedling

• Loss of volume (plumpness): fat and volume loss, leading to skin drop and changed shape

Treatment suggestion: filler, fat transfer or bio-remodeller.

What do you want to address in your skin care? Uneven skin tone, pigmentation, dull appearance, sunspots?

Quality at home skin care provides an opportunity to address problem areas and achieve goals gradually and continue to improve skin appearance over time. Investing in high quality medical grade skin care chosen for you by a medical specialist to address your specific needs is a great complement to in-clinic treatments and basic skin care.

We always recommend wearing suncream daily, even on dull, overcast days. But clients often ask which type of sunscreens they should use. As usual, it depends on skin type and lifestyle factors...

There are two types of sunscreen:

1 | Chemical sunscreens
2 | Physical protectants.

Suitability will depend on the activities you’re doing, your skin type and length of time you're in the sun.

Chemical Sunscreens:

• Chemical sunscreens come in anything from SPF 15 to SPF 50+. They’re a good general purpose protectant.

• Chemical sunscreens are the most common- the ones that spread easily. They come perfumed or non-perfumed. They’re easy to wear and go under makeup.

• Chemical sunscreens may need to be reapplied during the day, as they can wear off after three to four hours, especially if doing strenuous physical activity (sweating).

Physical Protectants:

• Physical protectants are thicker and used as a physical barrier. When the sun hits, it can’t get through. They tend to be stickier and last longer, so you don’t need to reapply as often.

• Physical protectants are commonly known as zincs, titanium oxides, as often seen on Australian cricketers during test matches.

• Physical protectants are generally thicker, heavier and stickier so they’re great if you’re in the water swimming or playing active sports such as skiing or water sports.

• As physical protectants are heavier and stickier, they need to be properly washed off at the end of the day or they can clog pores causing blackheads and whiteheads.

Which sunscreen type suits your lifestyle best, or do you use both?

It's not always easy to do, but a holistic approach to skin and beauty care takes into account inner wellbeing. High stress, lack of sleep, and lack of self-care contribute to overall sense of anxiety, can increase signs of ageing, and can negatively impact overall wellness and mental wellbeing.

We share five tips to prioritise in your daily life. Of course, life can be full and we don't always control our circumstances, so we don't always achieve all of these, but keeping them in mind and trying to achieve some each day can help maintain balance and overall wellbeing.

Tip 1: Get a good night sleep.

Tip 2: Drink enough water.

Tip 3: Mindfully consume.

Tip 4: Take time out for your self- daily, weekly or when ever you can to do something that is just for you.

Tip 5: Surround yourself with positive people- remove toxic influences where possible. Negativity is infectious. No one needs extra stress or drama.

While not necessarily skincare tips, keeping in mind overall wellness and wellbeing is incredibly important.
