Continuing our support for World we're talking about Constipation...

Here are some reasons why autistic children may become constipated:

💩Constipation affects 1 in 3 of all children.
💩They have restricted diets which makes constipation more likely.
💩After one large, painful poo children often withhold their poo to stop it happening again.
💩They may learn that poo goes in the nappy, so they wait until this is put on as they find change difficult.
💩They may not remember to drink regularly or not like the taste of water.
💩Feeling anxious about being in the toilet or bathroom, especially away from home.

How to spot constipation:
💩A poo backlog - can look like rabbit droppings or can be frequent runny poos.
💩Overflow soiling - leakage/soiling and overflow can be confused for diarrhoea.

Tomorrow we'll be sharing tips on how to relieve constipation.
