Today is World 🌎 Compliment Day.

There is something special taking time out of your day to show a little extra appreciation to someone in your world 🌍

It’s a great chance to not only show your appreciation, but also to check in and have a conversation with someone you care about.

It’s ok to feel down sometimes. You’ll swing back 💛

Find things you love doing and do more of them. Here are 5 tips to instantly lift your mood 💛

😊 smile. When you smile it triggers mood boosting hormones

🌻 keep busy. It doesn’t matter whether you tidy up the garden, wash the dishes or go for a walk - any activity that helps to break up your routine and gives you a sense of achievement will do the trick

💝 do something for someone else. Research shows that helping other people will help to lift your mood. So do a favour for a friend, donate to charity or volunteer

😁 talk to someone. It doesn’t matter whether you meet up face to face, talk on the phone, chat online or use Skype, connecting with other people helps to bring you out of yourself

☀️ live in the moment. If you’re feeling low, try to regulate your breathing and pay attention to what you can see, hear and feel at the present moment. This will help you to feel calm and bring you back into emotional balance

Goals for 2023 🙌🏼

We all one time or another have not stayed in our own lane. Maybe you got caught up in comparison and wondered why someone else’s life looks so perfect and yours doesn’t.

In the current age of social media, it can be difficult to focus on yourself or stay in your lane when most people’s lives are front and centre. However, generally those are just glimpses of what people want you to see and not their actual reality.

Comparing yourself to others can easily take energy away from focusing on your own priorities.

Staying in your lane is a great tool to have in your mental wellness toolbox.

Not staying in your lane and putting too much emphasis on others can cause anxiety, low self-esteem, feelings of inadequacy, and depressive symptoms.

It also distracts from feeling gratitude and a sense of connectedness with people and situations that are right in front of you.

Stay in your lane. Stay connected. Stay grateful. Stay focused. Flourish.

Ps don’t forget to moisturize and be happy 😂

Do you have children returning to school this week?

As caregivers, great communication and positive role modelling can make a world of difference between a positive start to the school year and one that can really go pear shaped really quickly.

Here are a few things you can start doing immediately.

🐝 Establish school-day routines early (homework and bedtime).

🐝 Maintain an optimistic tone and positive attitude with children about the school year ahead

🐝 Practice expectations. Discuss what the school week will look like

🐝 Exercise compassion. Our students can scared, anxious, worried

🐝 COMMUNICATE with your child, your child’s teachers and school. Talk to them about any significant changes that may have occurred during the holidays or any specific concerns or needs that your child may have

🐝 Listen and acknowledge their fears. Give them coping strategies for when they are afraid.

🐝 Meet the teacher

🐝 Read books or watch educational cartoons about things you may be concerned about for your child.

🐝 Set up school zones and expectations. Make sure you have a place that is quiet to do their homework and keep their backpack in one place. Perhaps pick the outfit out the night before.

🐝 Take your kids shopping with you. Get excited about the new school year. If your child sees you are excited, they will be excited.

🐝 Practice your new routine in advance of the first day of school.

🐝 Incorporate positive reinforcement. Tell them when they are doing well during those first few weeks

And as always…seek guidance from your school or professionals if you or your child needs additional support.

🥰 Self-Care Sunday 🥰

It is perfectly okay to say no to someone to help yourself! Today I am having a relaxing day with no demand, and that is okay! 💛

Relieve your stress with rest!

REST helps maintain cognitive skills, such as attention, learning, and memory.

Poor sleep and lack of rest can make it much more difficult to cope with even relatively minor stressors and can even impact our ability to perceive the world accurately.

Happy Friday everyone. I hope that you find some time over the weekend to be kind to your mind and prioritise rest.

Going to counselling is not…

🐝 A sign of weakness
🐝 a sign that someone is struggling
🐝 only for people with severe mental health conditions
🐝 shameful or a tragedy
🐝 an instant solution
🐝 venting to a stranger

Being able to recognize when you want or need help is a sign of high awareness and choosing to speak to someone is incredibly brave!

As the holidays come to an end, the hangxiety can really consume us.

The rush and maybe stressors of the Xmas season can be exhausting and the worry of returning to routine, work or school can feel overwhelming.

When things feel overwhelming remember…

🐝 1 THOUGHT AT A TIME,
🐝 1 TASK AT A TIME, and
🐝 1 DAY AT A TIME

Look after your body and mind 💛

The way you speak to yourself matters the most 💛

Negativity from another person is bad enough, but when it comes from your own head, that's rough.

Self-talk is what you say to yourself, in your head. It is the monologue running through your mind as you go to work, talk to your boss, have a difficult conversation with a friend, read your Facebook feed or drive through traffic.

The content of your self-talk is important because, believe it or not, you are the most influential person, in your head.

Try becoming more aware of the language you use and replace it with some more helpful statements. Be kind to your mind.

School break, seeing family we might only see once a year, staying up late, presents, travel, holiday events, new experiences, and did I say… presents!

That is a lot of energy and emotion for kids to manage.

And kids are still in the process of learning self-regulation skills.

The holiday season can lead to more meltdowns, anxiety, power struggles, and bouncing-off-the-walls high energy.

Children may excessively worry if they are transitioning to new classes or even new schools.

I will be working right through the holidays to help kids self-regulate.

Message me for more info. Medicare rebate and telehealth or face to face options are available
