There isn't a time more than any other period in history where we are given information overload beyond saturation point on a daily basis. Just scrolling through my FB feed gets me into overwhelm sometimes. Add that to the email inbox, watching the news on TV, the piles of junk mail, the ads in the glossy magazines and the smart phone alerts for every app we have to avoid the FOMO. Hence our minds are in constant overdrive, racing ahead at lightning pace, with several thoughts happening every second. Just as I'm writing this, I'm setting two mental reminders and looking at my watch. Our mind is as noisy as a crowded asian fishmongers market on a saturday morning. We can't even hear ourselves think, let alone figure our way through our own healing sometimes. We have drowned out the voice of our higher selves.⠀
How do we silence the mind? First we do some decluttering of our environment. At home, we switch off the tv. I unsubscribe from news pages or gossip pages, email catalogues, marketing material and any other write-ups unless I absolutely love them. And I stopped buying glossy magazines. Turn off all your smartphone alerts. Allow yourself daily time to just be. Perhaps a slow walk around the big block or a trail at the park. Five to ten minutes of meditation. Maybe write a page in your journal. Draw in your sketchbook. Knit a few rows of your sweater. Even washing the dishes with no distractions will benefit you. A few minutes of focused contemplative intentional activity slows the the pace of the mind and allows the voice of the higher self to come through. ⠀
The voice of the higher self is the voice of your soul. It is a soft silent voice. It sounds like a muted faraway echo and you really have to remove all the other distractions to hear it. Once you hear this voice, all wisdom it shares is for your own healing. If you want to hear it? Then start unpacking your mind, lovely, and allow greater awareness to enter. Woohoo!
