What's more important when it comes to body transformations? The answer may surprise you. We’ll use the analogy of a sports car here to demonstrate the point.
Let's say that you have a car and you want to improve the look of it; what would you do? Work on the engine or the body of that car? Answer - Body of the Car
However, let's say that you wanted to improve the performance and efficiency of the same car. Would you work on the engine or the body of the vehicle? Answer - Engine (ok, car enthusiasts, please don't @ me and talk about aerodynamics etc. 😂, let's keep this analogy simple)
In the same way, if you want to improve your body/the look of your body, it would make sense to work on that directly, right, similarly to working directly on the car's body. And for that reason, weight training would be more effective for that purpose. That's not to say that cardio won’t burn calories and help put you in a deficit. Still, in terms of improving the “body of your car”, i.e. the look of your body, it's essential to participate in regular strength training sessions. Some of the benefits include: improved muscle tone, increased bone mineral density, increased BMR (basal metabolic rate), and better posture, to name a few.
This is not to say that cardio is irrelevant or unimportant. It has its place. Just as working on your car's engine will make it more efficient, doing cardio will work on your internal engine (your heart and lungs) and make them more efficient.
Training methods are just tools, and it's often best to take the path of least resistance when attempting to transform your body (trust me, there’s enough resistance already).
