💰 Lunchbox budgeting made easy! Here are some wallet-friendly tips:

🛍️ Purchase staple items in bulk to save money in the long run.

🍎 Choose fruits and veggies that are in season—they're often cheaper and tastier.

🍲 Cook in batches and use leftovers for lunches to save time and money.

🏷️ Look for generic or store brands for items like bread, cheese, and crackers—they are often just as good as name brands.

🥡 Invest in hardy, reusable containers to avoid the cost of disposable packaging, zip lock bags and glad wrap – it’s cheaper in the long run.

🛒 Shop around - use sales, discounts, and coupons when grocery shopping. Many major grocery stores have apps that allow you to filter food items by unit price or by discount.

👀 Keep an eye on your child's lunchbox to see what they eat. You might want to put less (or more) based on their hunger.

🍽️ Follow the Australian Dietary Guidelines and steer clear of discretionary foods, like chocolate, sweets and so on, as following this dietary pattern can save money.

“But I’m hungry! I can’t wait.” What do you do when your child is hungry just before dinner? A great way to get your child to eat more veggies is to offer a snack plate of veggies before dinner. They might just be hungry enough to try something new, and even better, you won’t need to worry about ruining their appetite for dinner.

Dessert freedom 🍨🕒: Dessert after or with dinner? Here's why giving your child control over dessert time can be beneficial:

Empowerment boost 🌟: Allowing them to decide when to eat dessert fosters a sense of responsibility and trust.

Stress relief 😌: By removing the focus on dessert, mealtime becomes more relaxed, eliminating potential conflicts.

No "bad" labels 🍬: Treating sweet treats as rewards or superior foods is avoided, promoting a healthier relationship with food.

Self-regulation skills 🔄: Allowing children to listen to their hunger cues and choose what they truly desire can be a valuable learning experience.

What to expect: At first, your child may choose to have dessert first, but over time, the novelty will fade. Dessert will become a regular part of the meal, just like other foods.

Give it a shot, and share your experiences with us below! 🍨🍽️

Are you seeking less stress and more chill at mealtimes? 🌈

Discover the magic of the "Division of Responsibility". This is where parents decide the what, when, and where of meals, while kiddos take the reins on how much and whether to eat. 🤔✨

Embracing this approach reduces mealtime fussiness, fosters healthier eating habits, and strengthens family bonds. 🍏

🧀 Dairy: Keep it simple with cheese slices or cubes – a delicious and calcium-rich option.

🥦 Veggies: Boost their veggie intake with fresh or frozen peas and corn, steamed carrot sticks, broccoli florets, and cucumber sticks.

Is your child a “fussy” or selective” eater?

Some pickiness is normal for younger children. Their growth slows, they become more independent and learn to say ‘no’. This can be frustrating for parents concerned their child might not eat enough.

So how can parents create a positive mealtime?

The main rule is not to bribe, threaten, or punish your child to get them to eat.
Get your child involved in preparing for mealtimes; this can be as simple as helping set the table or getting water for everyone or older children helping prepare foods using child-safe utensils. Check out .com.au for child-friendly knives, aprons, hats and more.

Keep mealtimes short; 30 minutes is plenty of time to eat, and some kiddies will only be able to cope with 10-15mins and that's ok.
