How floods impact health systems: a scoping review of Australian research

OBJECTIVES: Although the health impacts of floods are well described, there is limited research on how flooding affects health systems, services and the health workforce—despite their central role in mitigating and responding to these impacts. This scoping review examines the nature and extent of existing research evidence on the impact of flooding events on Australia’s health system.

CONCLUSIONS: Original research on how floods impact Australia’s health system, its services and workforce has been limited, particularly in relation to general practice, allied health and the differential impacts on socially vulnerable populations. Further research is needed to inform targeted disaster preparedness and response strategies and to understand the complex and intersecting impacts.

Before I qualified as an Acupuncturist, I studied aromatherapy.
The relationships between our sense of smell, emotions and mental health were already understood, 25 years ago.
It’s so good to see that medical science is finally interested in olfaction, our vital sense of smell.
Did you know that a course of ACUPUNCTURE may help ease the symptoms of CHRONIC SINUSITIS, a condition which affects our sense of smell and our quality of life?

Your sense of smell is directly linked to the part of your brain that generates emotions and memories.

It’s always reassuring and exciting when medical science confirms that an activity like yoga has many benefits.

I often recommend yoga - typically Hatha yoga - to my clients.

If you haven’t ever tried yoga, check with your GP if you have any niggling or on-going health concerns before you start.

And make sure your yoga instructor is well-qualified and a member of a professional association.

With its emphasis on breathing practices and meditation — both of which help calm and center the mind — it's hardly surprising that yoga also brings mental benefits, such as reduced anxiety and depression. What may be more surprising is that it actually makes your brain work better. A sharper .....
