๐จ NDIS Update: What Families Are Noticing Right Now
Weโve been having a lot of conversations lately with families and Support Coordinators about changes in how plans are being reviewed.
Hereโs what many participants are experiencing:
๐ Closer scrutiny at plan reviews
Funding is being looked at more carefully โ especially high hours, SIL, behaviour supports and capacity building.
๐ Requests for updated evidence
Older reports (even 12โ18 months old) are sometimes no longer accepted. NDIA planners are asking for recent Functional Capacity Assessments and clearer risk documentation.
โณ Longer review timeframes
Change of Circumstance reviews are taking longer, and families are needing to stretch existing budgets while waiting.
๐ Focus on โreasonable and necessaryโ
Planners are asking:
What happens if these supports are reduced?
Is there documented risk?
Can informal supports do more?
This doesnโt mean people are losing eligibility โ but it does mean documentation matters more than ever.
๐ก What helps right now:
โ Clear OT Functional Capacity Assessments
โ Behaviour Support reports that link behaviours to supervision needs
โ Incident documentation from providers
โ Evidence showing risk, not just diagnosis
โ Regular communication between providers and SCs
NDIS is an insurance scheme โ decisions are evidence-based.
If youโre approaching a review or feeling unsure about your current funding, itโs better to prepare early than wait for a reduction letter.
Weโre always happy to guide families in understanding what the NDIA is currently focusing on โ even if you just need clarity before a review.
