I stood admiring the swans, the boats, the flowers, the sand and distant skyline today. I loved living here at Biggera Waters, Gold Coast. I miss swimming before work, waking up to the smell of the ocean and getting sand between my toes. A sea change is beckoning…
Wishing all the best Friday possible. L🌻x

I’ve never met a strong person with an easy past either. Soldier on peeps. L 🌻x

I’ve never met a strong person with an easy past.

The strongest people you know have lived through moments they never speak about. They’ve carried weights you’ll never see. Their strength wasn’t built in the light, it was forged in the dark, in silence, in pain, in persistence.

So if you’re going through something right now, don’t wish for it to be easier. Let it shape you. Let it teach you. One day you’ll look back and realise this moment made you unbreakable.

Keep going.

Australian former journalist, author and television presenter Jessica Rowe was the co-host of Studio 10 on Network Ten and is Member of the Order of Australia for her mental health advocacy. Love her take on kindness compassion & respect - they NEVER go out of style. Happy birthday Jessica! Chocolate for breakfast sounds like a great way to celebrate. 🎉🎂🍫🌻x

So this is 55- it’s a privilege to get older. My birthday is about a lazy morning, giant tumbler of coffee and chocolate for brekkie…
And when the world is going bananas I try more and more to focus on what I can control- and that’s my connection with people. Kindness, compassion and respect never, ever goes out of style. Big love ❤️

MISSING SOMEONE SPECIAL ON MOTHER’S DAY

For those who’ve lost their mothers, as well as those mum’s who’ve lost children, including in utero and stillborn, Mother’s Day can be filled with lots of emotions.

For over a decade in my former role as funeral celebrant and hospital chaplain I had the absolute privilege of caring for hundreds of families who will be remembering someone special on Sunday. This little reflection will focus on remembering our own mums.

When meeting with families prior to their mother’s funeral service, I heard a broad variety of stories about people’s own unique relationships with their mums. Some were loving, happy and close knit, some weren’t as smooth and some were estranged. Regardless of the dynamics, for the majority, “Mum”was the glue that held things together. The heart of the home.

It’s been 2 years since I lost my own mum and I too will be joining you all to give thanks for the life Mum gave to me. I will always hold her in the highest esteem as I respect who she was and the wisdom within the values she tried to impart. A shy and gentle lady by nature who endured many difficult years with kindness, integrity and enormous inner strength. Mum’s clever wit and beautiful smile always brought me joy. Personally there’s not a day goes by when I don’t think of Mum. Precious memories I often recall in my own private moments.

Sometimes in the wee hours of the morning I wander out on my balcony, look up to the skies in the stillness of the night and talk to her. I tell her about my day and am eternally grateful for all she did for me. It’s one of my private little rituals that helps to keep me connected even beyond death.

One night recently I was so happily engrossed in my monologue with Mum that I nearly jumped out of my skin when my husband touched me on the shoulder, encouraging me to come back to bed.

At this time of year, all over Australia, Mother’s Day memorials are often hosted by the funeral homes. Will you be attending a service or remembering at a family gathering or privately?

The following are a few ways families have told me they remember their mother figure.

*Lighting a candle near her photo in it’s frame.

*Sharing stories about her with those they love and trust. Not forgetting the funny memories. They are good for the soul.

*Visiting a favourite place of hers - out in nature or at a particular venue or spot she enjoyed.

*Putting a vase of her favourite flowers in their home.

*Choosing to wear her favourite colour for the day.

*Raising a glass in her memory at dinner.

However you remember this Mother’s Day know you are not alone and that I’ll be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Here’s to all mothers with love🥂
