Medical Assistance for ALEC

Medical Assistance for ALEC WE JUST WANT THE RIGHT MEDICAL HELP. Alec is the star of this page, apple of our eyes and one very loved little boy. WE ARE BEGGING FOR YOUR HELP. ANYONES HELP.

We, as a family, are begging for someone to help us as our pleas are falling on deaf ears. My nephew had sustained a brain injury when he was 2 and a half years old. The pain, the distress our little fellow is heartbreaking. My sister is one of the kindest, caring persons I and numerous others know. Everything she has had to go through as a mother with this epic plight, she has done it with the ut

most dignity. WE JUST NEED SOMEONE TO PLEASE GET OUR HOSPITAL SYSTEM TO ATTEND TO THIS LITTLE BOY AND NOT WIPE THEIR HANDS BECAUSE IT IS TOO HARD. Please help us. If you saw the videos of what this baby endures on a daily basis, how can they let this beautiful angel, endure this. His mother, father, brother and the rest of our family are in such distress because our health system, private and public, is failing this precious child. We would love a miracle. We pray for one day and night. But we would just be happy with controlling his pain. Then we can work oYou would not only feel the frustration, distress and heartbreak we are suffering, but you would have so much pride in her with her amazing love, patience and dignity she has. . We just want to get the help for Alec that he needs. Once again, our hearts are breaking watching this beautiful precious boy suffer, crying our eyes out whilst we get another setback due to being on the hopeless merry go round of the health system and continually put on the back burner.

Happy 18th Birthday, our beautiful Alec šŸ’™

Today, we celebrate not just your birthday, but the incredible young man you are and the unimaginable strength and courage you’ve shown every single day of your life.

We feel truly blessed that God gifted you to us. Through every moment of pain, every challenge, and every storm you've faced, you’ve done with a resilience and bravery that is beyond words. Your strength is quiet but powerful, and your spirit continues to shine despite everything you’ve endured.

Alec, you have taught us the most important lessons in life—to slow down, to cherish the little things, and to always be grateful. Your life is a gift to this world, and being your family is the greatest honour we could ever know.

We love you more than words could ever say. You are our heart, our hero, and the reason we believe in miracles.

Happy 18th, darling boy. We are so proud of you and love you more with every breath we take.

With all our love, always and foreveršŸ’™

I sincerely thank you for writing such an informed and incredibly powerful article that is shining a light on the inadequacies and limited access to appropriate medical assistance and care, for the most vulnerable people in our society. Your story is fundamental in providing a voice for those who cannot always speak for themselves.

Australians with intellectual disability continue to experience unconscious bias in the medical system and poor health outcomes. Advocates are demanding change.

Alec denied access to medical assistance yet again..
when will the health system open their doors to treat our very sick son and grant him access to the medical imaging he so desperately needs and deserves. Alec has become sensitive to light, wearing sunglasses at all times and cold packs to ease the pain in his head, neck and stomach.
Due to Alecs chronic movement disorder, he requires anaesthesia for any mecical imaging. This can only be done in a hospital setting and the health system is aware of this.
Our GP wrote an urgent referral to a Private Hospital Neurologist to assess and review Alec.
I phoned the hospital and was informed the Neurologist had declined to accept the referral , Alec would not been seen at the Private Hospital and stated to me Alec belongs in the Public Health System to access ā€˜holistic care’
The shock, sadness, frustration and disbelief that a Specialist can simply say ā€˜NO’ to seeing a patient that is suffering.

Recent Whole Genome Sequencing results from Blueprint Genetics -reported Alec tested Negative in all areas.
While a Dr stated they believed me that Alec has a Brain Injury/ but any imaging/scans to help identify why our child continues to lose functionality are being declined.

The Public Hospitals have refused and denied any medical specialists, apart from a Behavioral Dr for 15 years……
So where do we go in Australia to access medical assistance for Alec- when it is apparent the Public and Private Hospitals have closed their doors to our son and appear content to abandon this beautiful child to sickness and suffering.

If Alec was the son of a Politician or Doctor- he would certainly be receiving the very best medical care.
Why is our precious child being punished, ignored and abandoned by our healthcare system.

We have have private health, finances to pay for private medical tests and treatment, but the health system just says No.
We are now at the stage of begging, pleading for someone to help us save our AlecšŸ¦‹

15 years has now passed since the tragic day our 2 1/2 year-old. Alec suffered a traumatic head injury that changed his life.

The dozens of hospital admissions over the years in the Qld Childrens Hospitals , the continued neurological deterioration of our child - Still the hospital’s sit on the sidelines dismissing our child as Autistic.

Alec now suffers physical tremors from his head to his toes, violently shaking throughout the day and night - collapsing with exhaustion and cold packs for his discomfort. Drs have diagnosed GERD, overactive bladder- however state in medical reports state Alecs brain is NORMAL and he is healthy- clearly not the case

We have no answers for the continued abandonment of our child by our medical system.
Any person can review the videos over the years and see our chiilds deterioration is so much more than the diagnosis Autism - issued 15 months after his traumatic head injury.

The childrens hospitals said there was nothing more they would do, so we engaged with private doctors and specialist both in Queensland and interstate.

Roadblocks started and initial appointments were either cancelled or suddenly the specialist informed us they could no longer see Alec. We were redirected back to the Qld Children’s Hospital ststem - who once again wittheld any medical services outside of the Behavioural Doctor

*Not once in 15 years has the Qld Children’s Hospitals referred our child to a neurologist in the HOSPITAL system
Instead Alec was referred to a behavioural doctor and for 13 years only ever seen this Doctor

*Not once in 15 years has Alec undergone and MRI (withcontrast dye)to investigate the rapid neurological deterioration and loss of functionality .

Alecā€s page that I started over a decade ago evidences his life journey so far - happy times , but also the very painful experiences and extreme challenges that we have faced trying to access appropriate healthcare for our child

We will continue to advocate for our child and expand our search for someone willing to review our childs medical condition and help us save our AlecšŸ™

Heartfelt thank you for everyone who has kindly followed and engaged with the journey of our AlecšŸ¦‹
Recently I was given an amazing opportunity to speak with the incredible ABC Breakfast Hosts , Craig and Loretta about the difficulties we have faced for over a decade, and continue to face with accessing medical treatment for our precious child. I have attached the interview that was aired this week and we would be so appreciative if you would take a few minutes to listen
The kind words, messages and prayers that have been received, give us the strength and courage to continue to fight to Save Our Son šŸ™

Never would I have believed that living in Queensland, Australia, home to some of the very best Medical Professionals in the world, that a disabled, non-verbal child would have restricted access to healthcare services that meet their needs……..

Incredibly sad, but this is exactly what is happening to our child, Alec.

With multiple hospital admissions this year, most recent in July 2024, the hospital performed an Upper Endoscopy, CT Scan (with contrast) of his head, chest and abdomen.

The day of Alecs discharge, I was informed by the Medical Team, that all tests were clear and Alec was sent home.

When I finally received a copy of the Hospital Discharge Summary, my heart ached as this contraindicated what I was told. The Hospital test results had indeed identified many serious health issues for our child.

However, the hospital made an informed decision not to provide medical treatment to Alec. Instead , discharged him home in pain and very unwell and referring his complex medical issues, to our family Doctor to treat:

• Partially Collapsed Bladder

• Infection/Inflammation in both left and right lower lobe of lungs

• Extensive Faecal Loading (impaction) in the sigmoid colon and re**um

• Concave impressions along the inferior and medial clavicle (right to left) Prominent Rhomboid fossae (benign variant)

One thing we know is that if Alec was the child of any one of these Specialists – his medical treatment and access to healthcare services would be vastly different

We do not understand why our innocent child is being turned away from life changing medical care

We continue to do our very best to advocate for our much loved child, pursuing the urgent need for the specialised Medical Services that only a Hospital can provide.

The same reason we started this page for our child over 10 years ago to raise awareness and hope that somewhere, there is Medical Assistance

Our brave Alec gives us the Strength, Courage and Resilience to continue searching for medical help

Our precious Alecs came into this world a healthy, gorgeous baby boy, however a tragic accident at 2 1/2 years old , tragically changed all of this .
These are from the day of Alecs accident , CT images of the the blunt force head trauma, swelling along with what appears to be a Vitreous haemorrhage within Alecs eye after falling over 3 metres onto concrete.
Discharged and medically cleared after merely 6 hours of observation in hospital Emergency Department .
Yet to this day, Alec is medically declared a healthy, teenager with brain imaging returningā€˜unremarkable results ’
Unsure why then Alec continues to deteriorate , has lost most functionality and is now completely non-verbal
This is our precious Alec todayšŸ™

It is important to say, this page we started over 10 years ago , for our precious child, is authentic

Alec was born a healthy baby boy., reaching all age typical milestones- crawling , walking and talking.

Tragically at just 2 1/2 years old, Alec fell through a 3 metre stairwell. Sustained a traumatic closed head injury, rushed to hospital to only be discharged the same day.

15 months after his accident, Alec was diagnosed ASD and the past 14 years have only seen Alec treated for this disorder.

In the past 2 years, Alec has rapidly deteriorated and is now completely non-verbal, limited functionality and requires full time care at hone.
It is clear to us and anyone involved in Alecs’s life, he is a very unwell child who bravely fights to get through each day enduring his pain and sickness.

It is absolutely heartbreaking as a parent to see your child endure such suffering like this

Praying for the day for Alec to be treated as an individual with dignity and respect and access healthcare services and treatment, that meet his medical needs.

Our unconditional love and continued search for the right Medical Assistance for our Alec will remain strong.

After an indepth discussion wirh Alec’s Treating Doctors, it was agreed that the Medical Care and support being provided to Alec in Hospital, could be safely managed in his home, where he would feel more comfortable.

Alec has been prescribed Lansoprazole and Ondansetron together with liquid protein supplement drinks

Alec will go back to be admitted in preparation for Thursdays morning’s medical investigation under a GA. With the amazing technology and talented Doctors we have available to us, I am confident the source of Alecs daily vomiting bile will be found and will be treated

Our precious Alecs is such an incredibly brave boy, to endure the sickness, pain abd suffering for over 13 years.
Please pray for our Alec and for the these incredible Doctors to find the cause and treat our son šŸ™
